Weather like this makes me want to emigrate to England. Walking back from [livejournal.com profile] arkady's was like a summer's day in Perth: too hot, too humid, deep blue sky, everything washed out by the sunlight. The British are getting everything they ever envied about the Australian weather. That's why the merest sunbeam gets them breaking out the barbecue. And why flipflops are endemic. I see women on the tube every day wearing a business suit with flipflops. Really.

Last night was a date with Arkady. We put on as absolutely little as possible and went to the Dev. Apart from saying hi to [livejournal.com profile] untermensch outside and spotting [livejournal.com profile] glitchdrei across the room (gone by the time we went over), we didn't spot anyone we knew. So we sat up the back and sank pish and talked rubbish and I smoked cloves and found the atmosphere in general very calming and centring. The Dev is crappy, but in a very nice way and I like it a lot. Good company, good eyecandy, good staff, horrible beer. Perfect. Down to the Italian goth chick tourist watching the Cure DVD mesmerised that anyone would ever play a Cure DVD in a pub, anywhere.

[livejournal.com profile] redcountess and I aren't moving now; current plan is to stay in this flat and try to decitrusify it at least somewhat. And ship my stuff over from Australia. And Liz's stuff. And possibly her cat.

We seem to have brought the weather with us, but gods know where it's been hiding since April!

I think I just swallowed my tongue laughing at that heedless mirroring on the part of kids.net.au

Not in the UK. You get some very strange looks if you talk about how when you were a little kid you'd wear nothing but a pair of thongs on your feet all summer. I know - I learnt that one the hard way.

Around the same time that I learnt refer to my leather pants...

They change into proper shoes when they get to work. At least I did when I had to wear closed toes in case I dropped hot poison on them.
