Memo to my esteemed predecessor: in future, when trying to extract the cookies from an HTTP header in a shell script, try using awk instead of cut. Y'know, in case the length changes or something. Thanks ever so much.

Or just use cut -f with the -d delimiter set appropriately. Both of which options are available even with Solaris cut rather than GNU cut.

Yes. Just because he wasn't able to properly use cut that doesn't mean it's the wrong tool for the job.

I would be most satisfied had he used cut workably, rather than in a stupidly brittle manner. I wonder what other manner of joys are waiting for me in the twisty maze of broken monitoring scripts, all different.
