I would go mad with an axe if only I had one to hand. ([livejournal.com profile] arkady's sword is far too nice to sully with the blood of the standard of infidels you get around here.) [livejournal.com profile] redcountess is getting ill and stressed; the loud rap from upstairs helps not a jot. The flat is lovely for one person but not for three.

I am having trouble finding much information on what we can get out of the landlord in the way of alternate temporary accomodation, e.g. to what value. That would certainly constitute a major incentive to get the place fixed up. (I can find everything I need to know for Scotland, but not for England.) I'm sure I could spend tomorrow on the phone if only I didn't have this silly "work" thing to do then. Liz will be calling the council, the CAB and whoever else might be helpful then.

An electrician phoned today; he'll be around first thing tomorrow morning. (Liz and Arkady get to get up when I get up!) He strongly advised against attempting to switch on the power before he goes over it — everything will still be filled with water. He's going to unscrew all the plug and switch faceplates so things can drain and dry out.

Drinks for [livejournal.com profile] princesssulky's birthday last night, with Sulky, [livejournal.com profile] duster340 and Kevin and Claire, at the George in Wanstead. We got Suzy a DVD of Goonies. Tonight is Deathboy at the Garage.

I'm sure that you should be able to squeeze a day out of work on emergency grounds. Failing that, they should be much more understanding about you making a stack of phone calls to deal with it from work. Good luck.

I recall when 18 months ago we had problems with our now ex-landlady there was tons of useful stuff on the web under "Landlord's responsibilities".

If you don't find it I can see if I have any of it bookmarked somewhere.

Also I'm sure your ratties are safe at Arkady's but t says if you need a place to put them for a while during the move or whatever, we're happy to look after them. (He misses having rats, and we're going to be getting baby cats in the future so rats won't really be an option then ;) )

Hrm, I should've popped over and dropped the hatchet off yesterday, methinks.

Why? So we could turn the place into firewood? >;-)
