My own Ixus 50 has a 'da Oly protector on it. 2mm thick perspex; probably couldn't actually stop a bullet, but is fine for most things that might hurt a fragile LCD. Just over five quid mail order from the US, took about a week to get here; I recommend it highly.
Today in the post I got an Ixus 50 that was less fortunate. The camera still works, and somehow the LCD still works, but compare these two shots (taken with the handy Ixus 400 that also arrived today):
( Cruel, cruel stepowner who didn't realise a large LCD is a large target area. )
( Loving owner who put a protector on it before taking it out in earnest. )
(The huge LCDs are apparently because the Japanese market love them. The Ixus 50 and 55 are pretty much identical except the LCD; same for the Ixus 60 and Ixus 65.)
Always use protection. The camera you save may be your own.
