Just up: pics from dinner with [livejournal.com profile] narnee and [livejournal.com profile] wendolen, Tuesday 11th Monday 10th July. Really heavily beaten around with Picasa, which is knocking digiKam into a cocked hat for usability. If only it didn't trash Exif data.

Interview in friggin' Gatwick for a contract. I think I could stand six months of getting up at 6am for buckets of cash even if I have no intention of making a life of it. The heat's not quite as vicious today, and coming home to a lovely home-made orange juice ice lolly makes lots of difference. Here's to the Employment Bird being so kind as to shit on my head. Though of course I'm waiting for a second interview for a permanent position with one of the few companies I have ever actually wanted to work for. Cross fingers.

Who's visiting us next week? [livejournal.com profile] eyeliner297 is popping over one afternoon and evening for dressups and dinner, and I believe there is a vague notion of [livejournal.com profile] narnee and [livejournal.com profile] kimkali coming over for dinner.

I'm sure there was something on this weekend but neither [livejournal.com profile] redcountess nor I can remember what. Remind me? This includes your picnics, dinners, drinkies and so forth that I should be remembering but am not because my brane is cooked.

Bonus photo: [livejournal.com profile] eyeliner297 took this at B-Movie and [livejournal.com profile] redcountess likes it lots. And you? )

I'm sure I'll use this even more than my DeadJournal. Rather than LiveJournal for grownups (with ads), it appears to want to be MySpace for grownups (with as many ads; here's to FlashBlock). The median mean age of paid users on LiveJournal is thirty-one, so Vox must be aiming for the Daily Mail set.

(By the way, it doesn't appear to accept entered HTML; you have to use the clicky buttons for formatting. So much for writing offline.)

LiveJournal is a mediocre blogging engine; its entire secret sauce is the network effect, which is the only reason everyone didn't just get up and leave with the silly shit SixApart have been pulling of late. Note also that LJ grew organically rather than being planned that way. Vox appears to be an attempt to synthesise the effect. The Milton Keynes of social network sites.

If someone could tell me something Vox can do that the others can't, I'm all ears.

Edit: * I can't find that statistic, dammit. Anyone? Edit 2: [livejournal.com profile] beckyzoole, here.
