I took Friday off work and, with [livejournal.com profile] arkady, did some more packing. The electrician was there and told us the electrics were a disaster; he had rigged up a temporary power board for making tea — or, as we eventually did, running a heater all day to keep our fingers and lips from turning blue. The gas has been declared officially unfit as well. Both details are so very reassuring for the time we lived there.

Saturday we signed the lease and did most of the move. Arkady and I went to the old flat and [livejournal.com profile] redcountess went to the new one. [livejournal.com profile] vampwillow, [livejournal.com profile] _nicolai_ and [livejournal.com profile] vatine assisted with moving boxes. Nicolai and Ingvar also brought their strimmers and laid waste to the garden. Next best thing to napalm. It almost looks respectable now. We packed and shifted ridiculous quantities of stuff. That's just what I need, more stuff.

The new flat is a thousand percent on the old one. There is the minor issue that it doesn't have a cooker. We had a few words with our bright and bubbly Essex girl estate agent on the matter, and it will be sorted out Monday. According to Nicolai's inspection of the distribution board we'll need an all-gas cooker, rather than the ideal of gas hob and electric oven. They put in a washing machine, though not a dryer. We will need to get a fridge and a freezer (probably separate items) and a microwave. Liz can finally get her countertop dishwasher!

We got back after nearly freezing solid to a house with [livejournal.com profile] ruthi and [livejournal.com profile] oscarhocklee and Chinese food and stuff. And beer. Sweet beer. And pink champagne from Nicolai.

On Sunday Arkady and I dealt with the assorted small and fragile things. We actually cleared pretty much the lot. Liz rolled around in the flat going "MINEMINEMINEMINEMINE!"

I am so completely fucking buggered. But Liz is ecstatic and likes this house much better than the old one, even without the view of Canary Wharf.

Phone goes on Monday 7am, then I call my boss and sort out (a) dialup to work (b) company-provided DSL. Arkady and I then go over, clean and tidy a bit, attack the garden again and return the keys.

Ruthi and Cookie live two streets over. Liz and I are visiting, leeching their wireless, eating their ice cream and drinking their tea and alcohol. We're also planning the Pringles can WiFi beam.

Um... countertop dishwasher... Do you already have one? If not, do you want to buy a new one, or will a secondhand one be acceptable? We have one taking up space in the utility room that we'd like to sell on (£100 or thereabouts). The only reason for getting rid of it is cos we got a big built-in one put in when we had the kitchen done. Without digging out the paperwork, I can't recall the exact model, but it's similar to http://www.dealtime.co.uk/xPC-Bosch_SKT5102

Yell if you're interested, we can organise delivery/collection through the extended network of geeks/bofhs/afpers :)

Pringles Can? Pah! I did it at my last school with an old BSB satellite dish and a coffee can. That'll learn 'em! ;)

*yay* it sounds like the new place is 100 percent better, like being habitable for starters :]

Moving is so much fun. I don't know why people don't do it more often, brings friends together and you get to sort through so much stuff you have forgotten you've had packed away since last you moved. >:->

Congrats, I'm glad it has turned out ok. :-)
