Saturday was [livejournal.com profile] latexiron's 40th and it was the best birthday party I have ever attended, outdoing even my own 30th (for which [livejournal.com profile] bar_bar_ella put on a surprise party at my favourite Melbourne indie rock pub, with my two favourite Melbourne bands and a significant portion of everyone I knew and even flew my mother in from Perth). Everyone in the world, an open bar (my thanks still go to all those on Friday who didn't know about the free bar and said they'd *pint* me on Saturday), bands, music, large quantities of goth cleavage (particular points to [livejournal.com profile] flickgc and [livejournal.com profile] sneerpout) and an appearance by Captain Sensible. Singing his '80s hits over a backing track. (So [livejournal.com profile] bar_bar_ella can know the Captain did play on her birthday, even if not at it.) I started hungover from Friday, but two Red Bulls and an evening of vodka and coke made it all marvellous.

[livejournal.com profile] redcountess ran out of spoons just as we were about to leave, but thanks to everyone for saying hello for me to pass on and we showed her the pics, told her all about it and got a gift bag for her as well!

Yesterday I tended to the house guests ([livejournal.com profile] sheridanwilde came for the party and [livejournal.com profile] arkady stayed over, of course), did the shopping and tried to catch up on LiveJournal.

Today celebrates the commercialisation of romance. [livejournal.com profile] arkady gets the afternoon, [livejournal.com profile] redcountess gets the evening.

I remain curiously unconcerned about my employment status. The house is getting tidier.

Alas, it has a terrifyingly squeaky elf character in it -- her accent is not sexy in the slightest.

Yep. I've written them all to CDROM (along with Monty Python's 'The Final Ripoff' and some Billy Connelly) so I can play these German language things when I'm driving around in the car.

And yes. The squeaky elf character is... disturbingly naff.

Gooood plan. I would play them when I am about to sleep but I fear the squeaky elfyness would keep me awake and screaming.

French is the language of love; Italian, the language of sex; German, the language of rape.

(I speak Italian and German, not French. No, for real.)

Ta for the german link. I may give it a go sometime too.

Not sure what I'll use it for, though it could be useful to know.

I'm shocked he does it any other way, sans Damned.

Did he keep his kit on?

He took his jacket off, and he gave his red beret to the birthday boy - but apart from that he stayed decent.

I'm shocked, utterly shocked, he kept his scrotum to himself.
Maybe he hadn't shaved?

Nah, I think all the goths scared him.... we'd already had both the Simons ([livejournal.com profile] childeric and [livejournal.com profile] d_floorlandmine) dancing around topless, so maybe he decided discretion was the better part of valour.

Besides, maybe someone told him that [livejournal.com profile] latexiron had received an anonymous present of some thermite and magnesium ribbon as a birthday present. Wouldyou want to risk offending someone who gets sent thermite to play with on their birthday?

well, not entirely - his trousers did have a rather large hole in them. I suspect I only noticed because I was at the front and standing in the wrong place to get an eyeful of Sensible Bollock though.

Purely in the interests of accuracy, I have to say that [livejournal.com profile] perverse_idol was doing far more than merely "getting away with it".

This sort of thing could start a trend, if we're not careful.

Agreed. Vanessa on Saturday and Cat on Friday were stunning (I've seen the photos). Someone needs to put up a page somewhere to show all the wannabe Havisham goths (not to be confused with our [livejournal.com profile] misshavisham who is always gorgeous) how it's done.
