Despite the largely science-fictional nature of the apparently-ghosted-by-Haynes service manual, [personal profile] arkady last night managed to disassemble and reassemble [personal profile] redcountess's TiBook, reseating all connectors. The video is still displaying random bursts of electronic poop (loose joint or similar), so it's probably the logic board on the way out. A new laptop or netbook will have to wait until Liz is back from Australia. Finding several hundred quid in the street would help too kthx.

Three bleaches later and the younger teenager's hair is still ginger. "Useful life lesson" time!

Bored, bored, bored. Out of intarwebs. Feeling medium-poopy and had to postpone a date with [livejournal.com profile] nyecamden. Please entertain me.

Tell me everything you know about MediaWiki and permissions. That will entertain you, right?

Actually, can you add rosejasperfox@gmail.com to your Gchat and ping me about this if you have a minute? It'll make it easier to explain what I'm asking.

this suggests that resetting the PMU might help, which I'm going to try. It's been doing it less since A checked the connections. The other issue is the optical drive still not working but I'm going to see if putting in the other one works, and I've found clearer directions (opens .pdf) for that.

Argh! Bloody LJ/DW crossposting. I like namechecks, you know I do, but my DW presence is not the same as my LJ one (nor do I want it to be atm). Hm.

I would offer cautionary photographs of Dreadful Hair Dye from my youth, but I'm sure that every one of you have a selection to share.

Do tell Younger Teenager that the hair will grow. I spent about four months with a ginger Siouxie 'do (not a good look for anyone) because of unfortunate dye choices.

Random note: I want to make Frieda a doll, even though arkady makes them already and that renders my strange inspiration redundant. Would a squishy anime-ish doll be welcome, or do you have enough crap clogging your home?

Good! I will get to work in my "copious" spare time.

Spelling of names has never been my strong point :)

Bleaching dark hair blonde is best done by a hairdresser - shop-bought bleaches don't really work. I've tried bleaching mine before and it always goes orange.

A hairdresser sounds like a good idea. I've turned my hair orange more than once--stripping all the red takes double processing time with 40 vol. peroxide and extra-strong powder bleach (i.e., professional products). Would not attempt that on already half-bleached hair if I wanted to keep it, though! Hopefully a professional can at least find some less-damaging color to cover the orange.

This is why I have been doing it slowly and steadily for her using 40 vol peroxide and powder bleach. Between now and next weekend, she'll be washing using the conditioner-only method, and she's using my Aussie intensive leave-in spray conditioner as well.

I am wise in the ways of hair abuse. ;-)

Sounds like you're on top of it. Wish I'd had an expert around when first experimenting with the drugstore stuff. *g*
