This morning I had a job interview in Watford. Second interview is likely to be next week, and I have a different interview arranged for Thursday.
This afternoon,
redcountess and I wandered around Lloyd Park,
which is just down the street. Got lots of cameraphone pics. (Liz's
contract is up next month, so we'll see if she can upgrade to the next
advance in technology from phones with cameras — phones with cameras
that aren't shit.) It was an utterly lovely spring day.
I have been spending the rest of the day on Uncyclopedia. My user page has my vanity list.
arkady has come over and we've been photographing things to
put on eBay. And holy shit, my old Canon A40 that I was going to put up as
"spares, 99p" is actually working! We'll see how long that lasts!
Arkady has her first dollies up, and other stuff. Go look.

Date: 2005-04-12 12:28 am (UTC)I mean, sure, you can now get cameras with 6 megapixel resolution CCDs on them, but they're generally reaching that by interpolating a lower number of *actual* sensors. But that's beside the point - you're still placing the sensors within a very small physical area and using an extremely small, extremely simple, lens. This has the bonus of giving an extremely high depth of field, meaning the camera doesn't really need to focus, thus avoiding moving parts. But meaning you're never truly in focus, either - but when the picture is as blurry as it inevitably is after the light has passed thru that crap piece of glass that passes for a lens, well, you won't notice whether you're in focus or not.
Scaling up the number of photosites on the sensor doesn't neccessarily mean better quality images. Aside from the distortion and blurriness from the lens, you also have greater amounts of noise as you increase the number of photosites in the same amount of space.
Ignoring lens differences, this is why a 6 or 8 MP SLR camera will create a better image than a 10 MP point-and-shoot, as the dSLRs have a much larger sensor-size, and thus lower noise, better antialiasing filters, etc etc.
blah anyway i'm probably preaching to the converted.
point was going to be -- if you care enough about photos to actually want to view them on anything other than the screen of your phone, then just get a cheap canon/fuji/olympus point&shoot digital.. they practically give them away with cornflakes now, and picture quality out of a 2nd hand digicam is going to be several orders of magnitude better than your phone.
rant over.

P.S. Good luck on hearing back positive things from the interviews!! (No, that doesn't parse, but it's late and I'm on painkillers, you'll just have to cope)
