[livejournal.com profile] cavalorn on Sunday: "You bastard, you've sucked me into Wikipedia!" He's been having fun being the neopagan capable of joined-up thinking. For some values of.

The fluffy bunnies appear to think he is some sort of evil anti-neopagan activist, rather than, e.g., a subject matter expert of some note. Check out the talk page of Witchcraft. Arguing with these people. It's like they were handed an introductory list of basic logical fallacies, but their copy was accidentally headed "GOOD AND CONVINCING ARGUMENTS FOR EVERY SITUATION". "2+2=5467687634! And just because you ran an occult bookshop for ten years and have written articles and books about this stuff and done TV programs on it and stuff doesn't mean you know as much about it as I do. And if this were the thirteenth century and I were a family tradition herbal witch in the forests of England I wouldn't have to turtlewax the van." And you wonder why I'm a sceptical atheist.

I say this - it was really good for taking my mind off wedding stress!

Still, damn you anyway, on principle.

oh, for fuck's sake.
Is it just me, or is the internet getting dumber by the minute?
I sometimes feel as if spending time online in close virtual proximity of internet pinheads is robbing me of brain cells. I know my grammar and spelling have certainly suffered.

(also & apropos of nothing except being over here in your lj - i have go-betweens tickets for june 19th in brooklyn. woohoo.)

Karla McLaren (former chakra healer) has written an article on why plain logic doesn't work all too well on New Age believers.

Our cultural training about the dangers of the intellect makes it nearly impossible for us to utilize science properly - or to identify your intellectual rigor as anything but an unhealthy overuse of the mind.

That's a fascinating read. I've wondered for years why so many of my fellow pagans seem to have brains of kibble.

Thank you for the link.

I found it quite fascinating too, when I originally read it and am more than a bit delighted that it is availabel online.

I must go sit in a bucket now, and cool off.

But.. But... But... It's evidently self-obvious. Bobwitch said so and he wouldn't lie, he's part of the Craft! And Bobfighter in the corner has an unbroken chain of training through his secret family school, going all the way back to Stone Axe fighting from the teachings of the Remilliard family and he's got the documents to prove it!

Well, of course they had spiral bound notebooks in the 14th century! Why, even the very NAME bespeaks of its holyness and super-duper witchiness. Or is that wicca-iyness?

It's even better. Bobfighter has a video of his grand^4711-father being taught to wield a stone axe by Marc himself! Because, obviously, taht can't be fake!

This is getting silly...

You can believe what you like about inherited lore in the absence of evidence, but you have no more right to insist that history should be viewed from your faith-based standpoint than a Creationist does. Cavalorn 11:24, 26 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I got halfway through that talk page before the sheer stupidity rolling off the screen made me want to throw up. A health-hazard warning label ought to be slapped on that page - "Warning: reading this page will cause IQ loss."

Sheesh. Someone really OD'd on the Silver Ravenwolf crap....
