Wikipedia basically works. Wikinews is producing interesting results and some good original reporting. Now the LA Times is running an experiment in wikified opinion pieces: they put up their June 17th editorial on a MediaWiki installation as what they call a Wikitorial. (They're also trying to turn "wiki" into a verb: an action taken upon a source text.)

The result is interesting: a considerably more polemical opinion piece with surprisingly good factual support (and only one Godwination). And of course a counterpoint was promptly split off (by Jimbo, no less).

Wikinews operates strictly to the Wikipedia Neutral Point Of View policy, and people couldn't really see editorial opinion working on a wiki. But so far the good wackos seem to be outnumbering the bad wackos.

yes - Wikinews will really come into its own when it finds a proper host, and stops piggybacking onto a group of people trying to produce an encyclopedia ;-)

(have you heard their latest idea, "Wikinews Network"? i'm sure it's revolutionising media and whatever, but y'know, Wikimedia?)

well, on a more serious note... i do think that there are people who are better equipped to handle it than us. i'm not very interested in it personally, but i do think it has the chance to be successful, and it'd be a shame if it were held back by the constraints it's running under at the moment.

Verry interesting.

Why is this article named "Dreams of War and Retribution" where the original editoria was "War and Consequences"? I couldn't find any trace of the original in any history on the Wiki...
