Cull anyone whose name starts with A. They can't be trusted, alphabet-hogging-bastards.

And Z. What kind of person has a name starting with Z?

D'oh.

Speaking as someone who's hit that limit, it's not about me wanting to read them; it's about wanting them to be able to read my locked entries. I have a Default View and use it religiously.

To expand on my answer, [livejournal.com profile] rosefox is a member of communities but not a friend of them; [livejournal.com profile] rosefox_reads is a friend of them but not a member. I read through [livejournal.com profile] rosefox_reads's flist while logged in as [livejournal.com profile] rosefox, which lets me see friends-only entries and make comments to locked communities. Works like a charm.

Shift your communities over onto a new lj, that solves 72 of your problems already...

Everyone who isn't willing to sleep with you.
That will solve your problem and keep you occupied for the next 2 years :)

Communities culling might be the way to go. I think rosefox's method sounds good. :)

Excellent answers all.

None of them would require unfriending me ;)

There is an hierachy of LJ Friends; work your way down the following list until you reach 750:
  1. People with whom you have exchanged bodily fluids;
  2. People with whom you have exchanged Pints of beer;
  3. People with whom you have exchanged conversation;
  4. People with whom you have exchanged pleasantries;
  5. People with whom you have exchanged LJ comments;
  6. People with whom you have exchanged insults;
  7. Everybody Else.

Ah. I missed out a category:
  • People with whom you would like to exchange bodily fluids.

do you know lj won't actually let me see your friends list? I think I'd need a paid account or something. Anyway, your mutual friends list is only at 274. I would recommend culling anyone not on your mutual friends list that you don't actually care about keeping up with or don't actually read on a regular basis. If you need to, you could always create a second lj account for stuff you should remember exists and look at occasionally, or something. If you still need more space, you can cull people who never ever post or comment, becaust they've probably neglected to remember they even have an LJ.
