Yesterday's radio interview was not for any radio station in particular, but was to make a show to sell to US public radio. The radio entrepreneur in question, a young lady called Clara Long, had interviewed Jimbo and Larry Sanger (the Pete Best of Wikipedia), and today was speaking to me in the studio and Robert McHenry, ex-Britannica (known in Wikipedia circles as "that public toilet guy"), by phone. I rambled for about ten minutes — the community process, answering criticisms of quality by vaporwaring the planned article rating feature (on hold 'cos the lead thinks the current code sucks) and criticisms of the process by pointing out that just because you can't see inside the Britannica sausage factory doesn't mean it isn't as much or more of one. The other question was whether articles always improve with time — I said there is ever-more detail, and what tends to happen is that you have a well-written article, people add stuff, it makes the article clunky, then someone else edits it for flow. I completely forgot to mention Wikinews (particularly egregious as she was talking about Wikimedia, not just Wikipedia — so I didn't take the chance to trumpet Wikinews being first to report last fortnight's London bombings!), but did consistently refer to en: as English Wikipedia! She says she'll let us know when it sells.

Then I walked the length of TCR for a phone and a camera (not both in one). Ogled and fondled the grey Casio Exilim EX-S500. WANT! Stopped at Carphone Whorehouse and got a "free" Motorola C115 (phone, text and three games!) with twenty quid credit to replace my sadly lost phone. (You pay fifty quid all up and get thirty back when you send in your receipt.)

Then to dinner with [livejournal.com profile] nisaba at Belgo Centraal. Belgian food, beer and dessert is very filling. The beer also fuels bitching and gossip. A fine evening.

I got home with my shiny new phone ... to discover Stoke Newington police had called to say my phone had been handed in. (They called the number listed as "Home.") So! Anyone want a Virgin-BT SIM with 20 quid on it? Yours for £15!

Today was more running around. We won a Sun 19" LCD on eBay for £100 and I had to fetch that and the phone. The tube incidents would explain no-one being on the desk at the police station; I decided tomorrow might be a better idea. (Terrorist attacks are so last fortnight, darling.) The monitor was in Croydon and I was so wishing we'd paid £15 for a courier. The Victoria line was out; the third black cab I tried was actually willing to go as far out as E17.

Having inherited [livejournal.com profile] redcountess's old TRGpro (Palm III clone), I have been putting my life into it. Liz and [livejournal.com profile] arkady refer to it as my "spare arse." I spent my time on public transport today writing this entry. Syncs wonderfully with KPilot.

Liz has just installed Ubuntu on the Mac's old 8GB drive. It looks very nice on the LCD, even with an analogue signal.

I like your choice of camera. I wouldn't need 5 megapixels since most of my photos end up in Photobucket rather than being printed, and I'd prefer a bit more than a 3x optical zoom, but I really like the anti-shutter-shake feature. I wish my Canon A510 had that.

That works out to a bit more than I paid for my Canon, which was... oh, hell, it's 24% off, and I only bought it 6 or 7 weeks ago. Bugger.

If you're like me you might as well go ahead and buy yours so that the price will come down for everyone else.
