  • "Use the Plot, Luke!"

  • "As you know, the Hugo Awards are named for the father of modern science fiction — that tireless self-promoter, prolific journalist, pioneering inventor of television and the steam-driven automatic pencil, and editor of the world's first real f-s magazine: Victor Hugo."

Up at the crack of arse this morning (and yesterday morning, but they're not open Sundays) to procure LCD monitors for people. I got there at 8:45am and they opened at 10:15am, but I got to listen to two and a bit albums' worth of Australian '80s indie rock on my MP3 CAMERA. Black suits, pointy boots and bass guitars. I still want to be Chris Walsh when I grow up. Whatever happened to him, anyway?

They had three left, so I bought 'em. I had neglected a prior claim from Tony Sidaway, who tipped me off to them in the first place, so one goes to him. The other two in the queue are [livejournal.com profile] cookwitch and [livejournal.com profile] flavius_m. The guy said he'll be trying to get more in, and I asked him to notify me promptly if he did, so [livejournal.com profile] vampwillow and [livejournal.com profile] ewtikins might be in luck later.

In the meantime, I still have this 21" Sun CRT free to the first person to take it away. I'm tempted to join Freecycle just to offload it ...

Friday's B-Movie pics are now up. They all came out a bit bluish; I'm tempted to fiddle the colour balance. Or put a slightly yellow-tinted transparency over the flash!

I'm sure I had a million important things to do today, but I think I need more coffee first.

Umm - your link to the photos is actually to my journal, which is friends locked. Did you mean to do that? :))

To explain: if one puts in an html link tag but does not include the actual URL, LJ automagically and for no readily apparent reason shows it as a link to the jounrnal of whoever is reading it.

Someone once went mental at me for "linking to his page" when I left a link empty on LJ. Matter of fact he defriended me. What a muppet.

I'm on Freecycle, if you want me to post on your behalf?

I like the photo of me with my scarf swirling. That was one outfit we can definitely say Worked.

Cheap LCD monitors?! [livejournal.com profile] childeric will be in the market for one of those soon as his CRT is on its last legs. Could you let one of us know if more come in please?

Oo, ta, but no thanks, I don't think. My current monitor is on the way out, but I think I'll stick with it until it goes and then grab an LCD. If you know of cheap LCDs kicking about, then I'd be very interested.

I've just picked up a 17" from Dabs for GBP140. I know, it had better work or it'll take me a couple of months to get Dabs to replace it.

I didn't go for DVI - I just needed desk space Right Now, as have tons of studying to do in the next few weeks.

Pity that photo of me from BMovie is crap - the shadow makes my hair look, er, odd.

Watford Electronics (www.savastore.com) have a wide selection some at reasonablish prices with DVI inputs too ...

(though not at £85, sadly)

I have a feeling that shipping would cost considerably more than just buying one of the damn things for me. Thanks for the props, I was quite proud of myself for having the wit to think of it. Also, how many cool points do I get for receiving vegemite and a dirty picture from [livejournal.com profile] docbrite?

I curse my lack of a car. Of course, whether my desk is deep enough for a 21" CRT is another matter...

How's your budget? My electric bill has gone up by 25% since I added a 21" CRT to my collection of electric consumables, from £30 for last quarter to £40 for this.

The gods only know what it'll be like next quarter - two monitors, a desktop PC, a Mac and the laptop....

Atm, we run 2 laptops during evenings, and a desktop occasionally. I have a dead laptop i'm trying to breathe life into to act as a server, lower power consumption. *sigh* I want flatpanels, I just can't afford them.

But yeah, with budget as a consideration, which is tight, it'd probably be a bad idea. Bah Humbug.

Or should that be cloves?

The blonde in the background of this (http://reddragdiva.fotopic.net/p18862444.html) looks like someone I know from school (http://www.swarthmore.edu/), but I'm pretty sure she's teaching in Germany now.

(I had to view that one for what-the-fuck-are-those-boots reasons.)

I don't have the impression that warming one's legs at that event would be exactly a good idea.
