JPilot test entry. Let's see if it works at all. (Update: it did. KPilot, you are so gone. *pint* to [livejournal.com profile] theemptied!)

If you're going to be on crack, go all-out. After Wednesday's five-in-the-morning start, I voluntarily got up at 6am on Thursday and Friday so as to start as soon after eight as possible and finish at four. Eight-to-four shifts have one damn fine aspect, and that is having business hours left at the end of the working day to get stuff done in. I'll see how long I can keep this up.

The work itself is just fine. I now notice bank holidays: they're days I don't get paid. (No HLAGH HLAGH HLAGH, no checkie!) Today I solved two of my most annoying problems (with the UPS software: never trust a proprietary application in Java, write a script to kill it with an axe if need be) and hopefully made the SMB on Solaris someone else's. Next: get Sendmail working to and from the world on boxes on which all name resolution is done in /etc/hosts.

After work I hit Camden. Doc boots for [livejournal.com profile] redcountess and I. Cyberdog is annoyingly lacking in the mesh and silver I saw a few weeks ago — it's all T-shirts with touchy-feely (for the munters) rubber prints. Chiz! There's also a gorgeous new style of New Rock, which [livejournal.com profile] minigoth was wearing examples of last B-Movie. Sadly, the ones in Camden only go up to size 42. I shall be hitting newrock.es in due course, and getting a price on specially ordered size 47s if need be. Then to the Dev for a medically necessary *pint* and a howdy to [livejournal.com profile] felishumanus, who was jawdroppingly gorgeous in a Proper Going Out outfit based around a red satin cocktail dress made mostly of spaces. Did I mention how upset I was that my MP3 CAMERA is dead?

Then to the Hawley Arms (also in Camden) for [livejournal.com profile] kineticfactory's celebration of a year in Britain. (Today is coincidentally three and a half years since my own arrival.) He complained of the cafes and their music — rather than stuff selected by the hipster behïnd the counter, as in Melbourne, it will be the owner's Frank Sinatra CDs, because the eastern European girl behind the counter will favour either death metal or the Ukrainian Stock/Aitken/Waterman (forty-five-year-old men in flared polyester suits who make disco so they can fuck eighteen-year-old models). So Frankie's the go, really. Andrew also suggested the solution to the Fundamental Error of industrial music: build a machine to mechanically hit things with hammers. Met [livejournal.com profile] hazyjayne (another filthy polyamorist — she says to say hi to [livejournal.com profile] wintrmute and [livejournal.com profile] kitty_goth — and she seems to know everyone) and [livejournal.com profile] masterkill.

Then I went home. My goodness I'm dead.

Update: newrock.es is an unspeakable pit of Flash with sound, and newrockstore.com doesn't work in Firefox. There's good pics of the new style here. I think New Rock has really made a good goth boot at last. We did manage to get into newrockstore.com last night with Safari, and the new style only goes up to size 42 at all at present. Chiz!

Is the EJ in the photos the same EJ Barker of a.g. a million years ago?

also, shifts that end before 5 are definitely good for getting other shit done. I'm 8-3:30 and I am feeling a lot more life productive.
Except that I am off right now and not being productive at all.
wait, that's not true. I fixed some shiny things and did some laundry.
very productive.

I love the new style New Rocks too. I just wish they would make them not WEIGH a frickin ton. I can't wear them longer than an hour and then my legs stop working cause they have deadweights on each end!!

I have to say I'm a little surprised no one has made a machine to hit things with hammers. Its always seemed to me to be a relatively obvious need in industrial music. One day I may make one.

Definitely. Now, of course, there is the dilemma of owning a pair of boots that loads of others will have too.

Cheers for trying to find out how late the pub was open, n stuff!

Just a pity by the time i recovered from the afternoon and early evening eating, drinking, and marrying, that it was a bit late for Time. Damn English pubs and their silly laws :P

My Very First New Rocks are style 002! I never thought I'd own a pair cause all the others are all so clumpy and huuuuuge, but then I had a new rock accident with [livejournal.com profile] mr_prickle when he was over here in April. I've been tromping all over Edinburgh in them this week, they're so comfy. I ♥ my New Rocks.

I still think that Style M8 236 Black (the fourth one down the page) is a really nice, slick, subtly rivethead pair of boots. *love*

I am just terribly sad that the knee-high black patent Neptunes, which I *finally* got to try on during my first visit to Camden, couldn't be adjusted to be small enough in the ankle for me . . . I have, er, WOMANLY calves, but ridiculously tiny ankles, and getting boots to fit is a constant battle. Generally, lace-up boots do all right, but the New Rock lacing method and the width of the boot-tongue meant that they could only go down a certain amount. *le sigh* A love affair that was just not meant to be :/

Good luck getting your 47s!!!
