I stopped at Asda and grabbed a litter tray, litter tray liners and some wet and dry food. [livejournal.com profile] arkady got to my place just after I did. [livejournal.com profile] redcountess was too *splat* to come, so Arkady and I went to Romford to fetch the kittens. We grabbed the grey boy and the black girl and got a minicab home. The girl was smart enough to lie on her stomach the whole way; the boy kept trying to stand up and puked all over his sister. Arkady got several photos of them here. ADMIRE THEIR SPECTACULAR CUTENESS.

I have this habit of getting kittens when I'm getting up spectacularly early for work. Another generation of kittens are about to grow up learning that dinner is at 6am. Bah.

Name suggestions needed! Liz thinks Powder (grey) and Patch (black), but he doesn't really strike me as a "Powder." Arkady suggested "Silk" (grey) and "Velvet" (black). I have no idea.

Given that cats are naturally crepuscular (i.e., given to being most active at dusk and dawn) rather than diurnal or nocturnal, I suspect they won't mind.

Adorable kittens, btw.

Names for cats should be funny, because they aren't going to come when you call them ANYWAYS.

I'm still upset that Ava wouldn't let me name the pitbull "Bar-cheez", after a particular tasty horseradish/hummus/cheesy concoction popular in certain bars around Detroit. I think 'bar-cheez' is really the ideal name for an animal. A FOAF has two white cats, Snowball and Pork ("the other white cat") which I am also completely in love with. Other good names for cats would be things like "Axe-handle", "Conan the Destroyer", "Pestilence", "Azrael", "Buggery" - or perhaps "Buttsex", "Evil", and of course, "Tart".

"Lenore" for the black one (because she's been washed with special goth washing liquid) and "Gibbous" for the grey one. Or "Penumbra".

AWwwwwwwwwwww I love them! I want another kitten so badly. Their little paws are so sweet--and to hear them purrrrr. Awwww. As for naming, I think I will leave that to the specialists. I named mine, Whiskey and Chester Field Kent.

beautiful!
And to be honest, I actually like Little Boy and Little Girl. My cousin's dog was named Little Girl, and I always found it utterly charming.
Barring that, Catherine and Heathcliff? Cordy and Angel? River and Simon?
Okay, enough geekiness from me!

The Unadulterated Cat (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/075283715X/202-9113547-0399823) has some sage words on the subject:

"It's an interesting fact that fewer than 17% of Real cats end their lives with the same name they started with. Much family effort goes into selecting one at the start (“She looks like a Winifred to me”), and then as the years roll by it suddenly finds itself being called Meepo or Ratbag.
Which brings us to the most important consideration in the naming of cats: never give a cat a name you wouldn't mind shouting out in a strained, worried voice around midnight while banging a tin bowl with a spoon. Stick to something short.
That being said, most common names for Real Cats are quite long and on the lines of Yaargeroffoutofityarbarstard, Mumthere'ssomethingORRIBLEunderthebed, and Wellyoushouldn'tofbinstandingthere. Real Cats don't have names like Vincent Mountjoy Froufrou Poundstretcher IV, at least for long.
The chosen name should also be selected for maximum carrying power across a busy kitchen when, eg, a bag full of prime steak starts moving stealthily towards the edge of the table. You need a word with a cutting edge. Zut! is pretty good. The Egyptians had a catheaded goddess called Bast. Now you know why."

My personal recommendation: Fear and Terror (or Phobos and Deimos).

They are so beautiful! The black one is such an elegant tuxedo cat, like the winner's boyfriend in "Mystery Date" (http://www.timewarptoys.com/mdate1.jpg).

I suggest Mouse (gray) and Mystery (black). Or maybe Lover (black). But definitely Mouse (gray). She looks like a Mouse.
