I have permanent new teeth that aren't grey! I can eat curries again! Next dentist visit shouldn't be until a six-monthly checkup in April; in the meantime, I'll be considering the mandibular splint to stop my snoring. Or, knowing me, two mandibular splints.

I am particularly pleased by the responses so far to the poll in the last entry. They are appallingly accurate, particularly [livejournal.com profile] narnee's. Do please fill it in if you haven't.

Getting to work without a Northern Line was fine — Victoria to Kings Cross, Thameslink to Wimbledon, tram to Morden Road, walk down. Anything to avoid the buses. I wonder how long it will be gerfuckered for. If ASLEF and not just RMT are striking over safety, there may be a serious issue there. Here's to PFI contractors getting the LARTing they deserve.

Expect it to be down for a comparable length of time to the Central Line following the Chancery Lane derailment - i.e. a couple of months whilst they check somewhere in the region of 900 trainstops and signals and the tripcocks on all rolling stock....

They are claiming Monday.

The fuss seems to be Tube Lines subcontracting to Alstom. I guess Alstom subcontract too. (and so on..)

Living in South London the Northern Line being down is a bummer. Apart from the Elephant all my local tube stations are closed.

LUL doesn't actually own the Northern Line stock; it's leased from Alstom. However Tube Lines are responsible for maintenance of the track and signalling system. It's not a subcontracting issue, but rather one of discovering just where the problem lies - trackside, in which case it's Tube Lines' fault, or trainside, in which case it's Alstom's.

Chancery Lane, they claimed would be a quick fix - look what happened there. LUL have been looking for a chance to do a fullscale track replacement of the Northern Line for a number of years now; I'd be very surprised if they didn't take advantage of this suspension to do just that - much as they did with the Central Line.

You work near Morden Road tram stop? I used to work about 2 minutes from that stop, about ten minutes from it now.

I'm just off of the east end of Broadway in Wimbledon now - a few minutes directly north of South Wimbledon tube. Used to be on the industrial estate opposite the tram stop though, probably the second or third building you'd walk past after going under the subway.

It was more difficult to come up with something apropos to say than I thought it would be. I was going to give examples...
