Inanimational items elude I.
Dec. 13th, 2005 11:59 pmWriting Xmess cards. I know I didn't do a list, though
redcountess did. Next year we PRINT LABELS. You know, having a
PRINTER and all.
I came home from w*rk utterly buggered. (I did the ufsrestore
before nicking off. Tomorrow I discover if it worked!) Met
arkady at Borders and grabbed my new ... shiny
thing! She'd spotted
it on sale (£50, down from £70) in Maplin and asked if I'd like one. HELL YES. It's the same shiny
thing as hers and I am very pleased. I still have two dead cameras I have
vague notions of reviving (Casio
EX-M2, Canon Digital Ixus v2) and two old and crusty ones (Canon PowerShot A40,
which
jargontoshiya laid claim to and has yet to arrange to
fetch, and Fujitsu A202). But this thing. It's five megapixels, its low
light performance is fantastic, it does umass, it does MPEGs with sound that play fine
on Ubuntu and it's a cheap and cheerful generic gadget churned out in a
Chinese factory. It only lacks optical zoom. And it's real small. What's not to like?

Date: 2005-12-16 09:55 pm (UTC)Help me - I'm wavering! How long were those exposures? My Canon A80 can do loong exposures (up to a minute) but that's serious tripod territory.
My fifty quid can be spent on shiny or RAM. Not working so fifty quid is something, but I have the geek need for new shiny.

Date: 2005-12-16 11:15 pm (UTC)Photos in a fluorescent-lit room without flash look so much better than photos with flash. I've yet to test it in drunken goth club conditions ...

Date: 2005-12-17 04:56 am (UTC)Oh you know you can get an adaptor that will allow your canon to take filters and some lenses? I have one for mine and i can use coloured filters, and magnifying glass type things and the very useful circular polarising filter which kills reflections from glass. Ideal for capturing christmas consumerism in full flow!
The shiny has 1 more megapixel than my canon - I think if I'm up/awake/sober tomorrow I'll go to their Holborn shop and get it..

Date: 2005-12-18 12:18 pm (UTC)How's it working for you? Is it playing nice with your computer? Do you have a tripod small enough to carry literally everywhere?

Date: 2005-12-19 09:05 am (UTC)I have a mini tripod about the same size as the camera itself - cost a fiver from Jessops some time ago.
