Mar. 8th, 2010 08:58 pmThe Tories directly threaten the BBC, live on Newsnight, for daring to question them about Ashcroft.
The complete text of "Surely You're Joking, Mr Feynman" by Richard Feynman. I cannot recommend this highly enough.
Bertie Wooster as Batman. "I understand badgers can be quite nasty in a pinch."
I bet the author of this thought she was writing something radical, outrageous and thought-provoking, rather than a fairly straightforward description of the gay press and its effects over the last thirty years.
Dad is somewhat better — it was "just" pneumonia, and he's coming out of the induced coma over this week. I still have no idea when I'm leaving for Australia, could be any moment. I am pleased to discover that my paper UK licence plus my Australian passport should be enough to drive in Perth.
Wine on Windows shudders forth. This bug is the fifth seal; the sixth will be a working program launcher under Windows, the seventh will be the Win16 bits compiling and giving this eldritch horror a reason to exist. Why? BECAUSE WE CAN. Eight times in the last three days compiling it has made my laptop overheat and switch itself off. T3H H0RR0R T3H H0RR0R.

Date: 2010-03-08 10:26 pm (UTC)I just noticed those sharks though.. 144 of them for £45. But there's more than ten lots of them for sale! So over 1440 wooden sharks!
I suppose bankrupt stock is like that.

I'd figure the sharks could be hot items. For leaving around a startup in readiness for the day they need ... jumping.

Date: 2010-03-09 01:20 pm (UTC)As a woman, though, it's *everywhere*, not just in one section of the media, in one (admittedly big and important) subculture. The sexual/appearance comments about female politicians are in mainstream comedy shows, women are discriminated against at work for what they look like. We cannot get away from it wherever we go, and the expectations are at work from a very early age. I don't want to belittle what men go through from the expectations on them from the gay media (neither, I strongly suspect, would Laurie) but I do not think it is the same.
