Jan. 6th, 2006 04:16 pmI gave a moment's consideration to going through and doing a Great Lockdown, but I can't really be bothered. Everyone else in the world gets the whole truth in all its spectacular and messy glory. (Except the bits I don't tell you either.)
But tell me: how did or would you deal with your journal being discovered?
(I lock entries when I'm whining about w*rk or when I'm involved in putting together a surprise for someone. That's about it. And I must say, having the Church of Scientology reading one's every word online hoping to use it against one when one suffers a fear of not public speaking does produce interestingly defiant results. If I say so myself.)

I friends-only posts for two reasons: whining about Work Shit, or bi-/poly-/assfucking weirdness that'd freak the norms. And I think my mom knows most of that stuff anyways, I just don't see the point in hitting her over the head with it.

Date: 2006-01-06 04:41 pm (UTC)My brother wouldn't care. He's not a big fan of reading and knows all of my dirt anyway.
MFBF and Chris would deserve whatever anger and pain they dig up for themselves. Most of my entries are locked these days because Duckie won't stop reading.
Extended family is the same as the general public to me. I don't know any of them and simply wouldn't care. Mom's bf doesn't touch the computer.
Jon's already reading and commenting. It's reassuring that I don't have to tell him where I've been and he doesn't pass judgement.

Date: 2006-01-06 06:12 pm (UTC)I bought a hardcover edition of PZB's Courtney Love bio off eBay for Christmas, mainly to help her with vet costs, and she offers an inscription service, so I just asked her to inscribe it "To David" but she added "live through this" which I thought was rather cool and funny.

Date: 2006-01-06 04:57 pm (UTC)If they were aware of my blog, they'd only see the "for public consumption" posts, which is generally nice and clean with occasional crude jokes and political rantings. ;)
Anything remotely incriminating is in friends-locked posts, not on the public record, though that's more to save my arse if a potential employer/client/contractee goes digging for dirt.
I think it's a healthy level of paranoia; an extension of my "public" versus "private" faces.
It's a small world and sometimes I wish it wasn't quite so small.

/zey was developing an automagic friends-lock utility.
Of course, if Mrs G is smart, she'll have read and logged everything before posting.
Firefox has this amazing utility too...
