I have a temporary location for the 100 or so Whitby New Year photos I've done out of the 500 or so I took. Let me stress that this is TEMPORARY — I need to set up a proper site on reddragdiva.co.uk and put them there. But you can have a look now. [livejournal.com profile] faerierhona's faith in my photographic eye is greatly reassured!

Gallery 2 sucks as badly as [livejournal.com profile] arkady said it did. Creating, uploading and maintaining albums is easy, but it's far too much work to get the galleries to look only half like arse. I'll see what I can beat out of it. Fotopic still shits on it for usability and presentation.

I was going to use LiveJournal photo hosting (I have a gigabyte courtesy a paid account), but not only does the gallery format suck ... but you can't bulk-upload by FTP or scp, only with their client software. What the fuck.

Getting my photos up in any sort of timely fashion relies on getting the laptop working — my recent productivity was because I was doing them on my daily commute; I have far too many other things to do at home. I need to find time to strip down and rebuild it in the hope of bringing it back to life. The service manual is indeed relatively clear.

Update: Anyone know how to get Gallery 2 to email you comments people make on photos? I can't see anything obvious. Someone did a Windows binary ... I suppose I could hack the PHP if I had to.

you can also use a client (like an LJ client, but for SB), but i don't know if anyone's written any good ones yet. maybe you could be the first ;-)

Hmm, dunno about OSX but I needed to install one XML perl module I think, and then create .fotoup.conf in the following format:
server: pics.livejournal.com
username: lnr
password: XXXXXXXXX

You see, this is why everyone writes their own gallery software.

The LJ perl client works fine for me, once I worked out how to configure it.

Have you looked at Flickr? It's probably the best-developed photo hosting site. It doesn't have FTP/scp, but it does expose lots of APIs and feeds.
