The hammer speaks.
Mar. 17th, 2010 09:33 pmAlive and well in the suburbs of Perth. Left in good time, spent three hours too long in Dubai. You know how airports are a plastic imitation of the world? Dubai terminal is a plastic imitation of a plastic imitation. It's literally one large shop (Dubai Duty Free). And the duty free stuff is frequently pricier than high street prices in London. I bought a burger for six quid. The flight to Perth was nearly empty, which was nice. I actually bumped into
strangedave in the baggage queue — he was on the same plane as me, on his way back, from Kenya!

My post to
dw_suggestions has been accepted. The geeks there are currently working out ways to make the current system even more complicated ... please do comment there, politely and with technical detail, on the commenting experience for LiveJournal users.
Perth has not changed in its character in any way whatsoever. Dialup suits it.

Date: 2010-03-20 06:08 am (UTC)What is worrying, however, is the immediate thread coming up with something even more complicated, in the cause of evangelising the plumbing. Users should not have to care about the plumbing; the best evangelism for the plumbing is that it works so well that it's forgotten.

Date: 2010-03-18 11:08 am (UTC)So once more I miss going to Perth. I can't say I'm devastated... One of my nightmares is Mum getting too feeble to care for herself and me having to find work there.
Presumably you aren't in danger of that?
