Alive and well in the suburbs of Perth. Left in good time, spent three hours too long in Dubai. You know how airports are a plastic imitation of the world? Dubai terminal is a plastic imitation of a plastic imitation. It's literally one large shop (Dubai Duty Free). And the duty free stuff is frequently pricier than high street prices in London. I bought a burger for six quid. The flight to Perth was nearly empty, which was nice. I actually bumped into strangedave in the baggage queue — he was on the same plane as me, on his way back, from Kenya!

Perth has not changed in its character in any way whatsoever. Dialup suits it.

Wtf, diva. I know you have shit going on at present, but do you really think "DW sucks" is the best way to get a volunteer community to do your bidding? You know better than that.

Oh yes indeed, I was clearly possessed by the spirit of fuckwittery. Hopefully that won't kill the idea, but it'll need other supporters.

What is worrying, however, is the immediate thread coming up with something even more complicated, in the cause of evangelising the plumbing. Users should not have to care about the plumbing; the best evangelism for the plumbing is that it works so well that it's forgotten.

I was going to Perth in June, but Mum has decided that she'd rather escape herself. She was talking about Linux.conf in Brisbane but I dunno Brisbane in January with no doubt a certain amount of walking from sleeping accom to venue will suit her. So we are going to meet up in Adelaide in October instead.

So once more I miss going to Perth. I can't say I'm devastated... One of my nightmares is Mum getting too feeble to care for herself and me having to find work there.

Presumably you aren't in danger of that?

I'm not worried about Mum; in such need, my sister would be doing the job. Mum stays over so much she and Dad have their own room in my sister's house ...

I had a look through the Perth job ads. There's FUCKING NOTHING.
