Well, meh. I got the laptop reassembled and it still doesn't work. Doesn't even indicate it has power going to anywhere on it, so maybe it's not the missoldered coil but something else. I'll take it apart again at my leisure. (sigh)

(If I ever say anything nice about Compaq hardware design again, point at me and laugh. It was like assembling Ikea. ALL HARDWARE SUCKS.)

Yesterday I discovered that, although the DVD burner we bought for the old G3 we gave arkady does DVD±R/RW, the one that came with our present G4 ... does only DVD-R/RW. Buh. That's stupider than two competing standards in the first place. So Arkady is getting a spindle of DVD+Rs for free! And I'll be backing up my media archive onto a fresh pack of -Rs.

In honour of Valentine's Day, I give you this. We swapped days, so tonight was redcountess's (wherein I romantically reassembled the laptop) and tomorrow is Arkady's.
