Life continues to be very dull indeed. I am reading books and playing music. I have taken no photos; with Worst of Perth, they'd be redundant.

Dialup is Internet water torture. My sister and mother plan to get broadband. I've seen their computers. T3H H0RR0R. The sister's computer had a full hard disk because the recycle bin hadn't been emptied since 2005. I finally installed XP Service Pack 3, which would have been downloaded ages ago. I've turned automatic updates on. I think I managed to put the fear of God into my sister concerning the hostile Internet and keeping your antivirus switched on, and also use Firefox rather than IE. Hopefully it will stick. But dear God — computers, and especially Windows ones, are utterly incomprehensible boxes of malevolent magic to average suburban people, and I now know deep in my heart why 25-50% of Windows boxes are botnet zombies. I'd just buy my mum a Mac if I thought she'd use it.

(When you were a kid, did you want to be a wizard when you grew up? "That'd be SO COOL!" Now you are one. Sucks, don't it?)

[personal profile] redcountess will not be visiting Perth to meet up after all, as Australia is cursed with a strong dollar ([livejournal.com profile] strangedave credits this to Australia having implemented in the 1980s all the financial system reforms the UK and US were brutally sodomised by the absence of and are still dithering over putting into place. Keating, you da man. It was such a pity about your utter lack of charm) and wouldn't accept the >£500 cost of a day's visit. Meh. At least I got her Metal Hammer!

Pub Sunday afternoon. Captain Stirling, 4pm. Tell everyone.
