tart's wifi ran okay from the Dapper beta 2 CD, so I'm now dist-upgrading over the net. Only restarted twice, so cross fingers I have a working laptop afterwards. I'm writing this on [livejournal.com profile] arkady's laptop booting from the Dapper CD (the live CD is also the install CD) while she edits Ixus photos on the Mac and plays CDs.

I have sold two cameras. There's no stopping me now! My eBay stalking will become legendary, I can tell you mate. I must note that the camera I thought was a 1.3MP Casio EX-S1 is actually a 2MP Casio EX-S2. Still an incredibly tiny stealth spy camera which shoots really fast. You'll have been amazed to see me suddenly reveal this series of alarmingly concealable camera at past B-Movies. Fifty quid to you lucky people, or I eBay it at week's end.

(The EX-S2 also came in red, and the EX-S20 in the bright yellow Kill Bill tie-in.)

Arkady has been trying out the unsold Ixus this afternoon; she upped the gamma on these pics for the web, but was otherwise very pleased how little work they were. A good camera is a camera that doesn't require effort afterwards; my Whitby New Year pics were done on a Chinese generic (Premier DC-5085) and only look okay because I tweaked every single one of the four hundred-odd shots by hand. I use an Ixus to avoid that sort of crap.

You opinionated camera nerds may care to weigh in on this post in [livejournal.com profile] whitby, helping someone who knows nothing about cameras but wants good shots of drunk goths in pubs. I might make a version of my long comment into a post here. I ended up recommending an Ixus 30 (£117 new on Amazon, £70-100 new in box on eBay) — low on megapixels compared to the cheap stuff, but good shots of drunk friends in clubs will basically just fall out of it like magic. ([livejournal.com profile] neefsck, [livejournal.com profile] allezbleu: you got any galleries from your little Nikon?)

We have just booked tickets for Avenue Q tickets for Thursday 22nd June. What's the Internet for?

Today has been an unbelievably beautiful spring or summer's day without me feeling like my sinuses are being raped by rapeseed. More of this, please.

I love my 2mp Ixus V, I've heard the newer Ixus line aren't quite up to the same standard (or form factor for that matter) which is a real shame.

Huge amounts of megapixels mainly serve to increase the resolution of the saved piccies. The more the better if your intention is to print large glossies, but if you're just going to publish them on a web site anything over 2 megapixels is kind of wasteful. You'll be needing to decrease the pictures' resolution anyway, to make them fit properly on people's computer screens. (I say this not for your benefit but for those that are considering purchasing a camera from Shady David's Optical Emporium but are conserned about the lower megapixelage of your stock.)

There's a very amusing WoW video of dancing minotaurs set to that song, you know.

I shall poke my ex, [livejournal.com profile] cymrys, and get him to send me the link.
