No, I'm not looking for a contract in Leeds, I'm looking in Greater London. I'm afraid a commute to Reading is infeasible, I'm looking in Greater London. Yes, Slough is just inside the M25, but it's also on precisely the opposite side of what could possibly be called Greater London. No, I'm afraid my passport is not in order for six months in Belgium, and I do recall the ad said the job was in London. No, St. Albans is not North London, it's thirty kilometres away. Greater London, yes really. Thanks, looking forward to your call!

Today I bought lightbulbs. Spoke to pimps. Tonight is [livejournal.com profile] valkyriekaren's much-delayed birthday drinks, but we won't be able to make it. See you on Sunday if the forecast of "torrential" doesn't come true!

Tomorrow is Antilight, which I will be attending with [livejournal.com profile] arkady and a camera. (New icon courtesy [livejournal.com profile] marchosias444.) The question is, of course, which camera.

[Poll #732190]

(Yeah, I know I should have posted that before people left work.)

Sunday is [livejournal.com profile] jhaelan's picnic in absentia, which [livejournal.com profile] redcountess is particularly keen on attending if the weather isn't intolerable.

[Poll #732191]

Monday is [livejournal.com profile] silkyraven's birthday drinks, which sounds a particularly good idea to me. *pint*!

Being a slackarse, I still haven't blessed eBay with my camera pile. Anyone interested before I do? I would also be very pleased to give friends general camera advice or assist in eBay stalking.

Update: The silent partner has decided to be not so silent on this one. 400 it is, not 430 and definitely not 600! And here I was spending the last two hours going through possible ways to scratchproof it ... I will be bringing it on Sunday, though. I think actual test shots are important to selling a camera.

Er, you are thinking of Staines?

Slough is outside the M25 and you are right. It is a horrible place to do a contract.

Staines is technically in the suburban wastelands of MiddlesexSurrey (whilst Slough is in BuckinghamshireBerkshire). But yes, come friendly bombs.

(you know what I'm going to say, right?)

St. Albans is very very close to Hemel, where I happen to have a lovely large house in need of renting... ;)

(I had to say it. I'm done now. *G*)

Have I mentioned recently that I love my corset? And my boots? :) (Btw, my mom says Neo is cute. I sent her a copy of one of the ones of me holding him for US Mother's day.)

aww, what, you have something against quality chavs? *g*

I have no idea re: rental market. I was going to have an estate agent 'round for a consult kind of thing after my liver biopsy, but I just felt too shit, and I keep thinking the house should be tidier before I have someone come in. (Also- SCARY.)

I'll see what I can do. I might have to wear the other boots (the Storm Commandos) though- my patch job on the zip is keeping it from geting much worse, but there's no way to tighten it properly in the ankle now, so it rubs and gives me blisters. :(

that's a lot of boot to lug around. :)

(I'll have to find something to wear, too. Is it too tacky to wear the same corset twice in a row? *g*)

Also, the cameras and anything else you take should be stapled to you with bolts or in some responsible adult's care.

I tried a commute to Reading for a few days (same road as M$ but not at) - it was a killer and not to be recommended. The commute to St Albans (fairly central offices) is fine though as 'against the flow' and pretty fast ...

Re Antilight ... NEVER! (for they are anti-light and I am a glowstickie person)

You wouldn't happen to have an idea on how I could fix my Nikon Coolpix 3100? Since it got wet last year the buttons on the back cover no longer do anything at all - and without those buttons there's no zoom, no picture viewing, no nothing but taking pictures with flash on.
I've cleaned it up as good as I was able with Isopropanol (Isopropyl-alcohol), but I can't get to the actual buttons as the screws holding their cover are too tiny even for my watchmaker-sized screwdrivers. (And yes, I've checked the connection of the flat data-cable.)

As a last resort I'm currently hunting eb*y for an otherwise broken 3100, but I haven't had luck yet.

Check connectivity at all points along that ribbon, would be my first guess.

That was my first guess, too, although I suspect a short-circuit between two of the "wires" - after all, a bit of water can't crack such a "wire", but it can lead to rust on something like a screw, and if that rust has current-carrying qualities... That's why I cleaned everything I could get to with Isopropanol.

(The "upset users" are morons, mostly. There's not much current in AA-batteries, but they do work as last-resort (at a rock festival when your akkus are flat and the next band on stage's gonna be Twisted Sister). With 2 standard akkus of 1800 mAH upwards, the camera's good for 3-figure shots - or at least 50 with flash. Tell that to my Canon S1 IS!)

As to service manuals, the closest I could find was for a 4300, but that one's useless.

But, hmm, maybe one of your Ixus' looks as cheap as the Coolpix? I only fiddle with it because it looks like cheap shit and is thus easily smuggled by the security loons at rock festivals (where the rule invariably is "<=3 MP and no optical zoom at all"). For normal pictures I haul the S1 IS around.

I suspect that, however you do it, you're going to have to open that button assembly.

sigh getting hold of such tiny screwdrivers might become a quest on its own.

No optical zoom means it's not an option. BTDT. One'd need at least as much x of resolution as one'd like to have in optical zoom, and a 9 MP camera (equivalent to 3 MP with 3x optical zoom, and that's not taking the lens and optics into account) is out of any budget restraints.

Oh, and about batteries/akkus: the Coolpix takes just 2, not 4 (like your A40 and my S1 IS), so it's comparatively economic ;-)

Not within a reasonable timeframe, but in a few months, i will probably be skulking around either your camera pile or brains, looking for something both nice on dollflesh and capable of decent outdoor nature-kinda macro crapola. *roots*

hm. I don't think we're too much concerned about clunk, fiddle, or battery life, since it's very unlikely that it'll ever get more than a hundred yards from the house. The A40 is going at a very attractive price ineed on ebay at the moment, though in the long run, i think the A540 might be the girl for me.

Currently, we're limping along on a Kodak DC280 with a half-broken zoom; does all right for people, but for anything else, interpretive dance might be more effective. ;p

I MIGHT be around tonight. But that's a big MIGHT. I'm going to [livejournal.com profile] kitty_goth's birthday party this evening, and IF there are people going on to there (which there may well be, I know there are people going on to Slimelight) and IF I still have enough money to actually get in (and there's a large chance that I won't) I'll think about it.

But, of course, if I am there I will pose for you willingly. I will also be wearing *amazing* shoes.
