The bloke from Dreams finally came around this morning to fix the bed:

One drawer was broken but fixable with some judicious hammer blows and a compressor-powered staple gun (which is probably how it was made in the first place). The other was quite unambiguously broken into bits, and someone will be round with a replacement in a couple of weeks.

And arkady and I finally got to do the dance of the bed base, with a particularly flopsy eight hundred quid mattress. We found the workmanship, uh, breathtaking; truly, there are no limits to their attention to detail. A few judicious hammer blows, screwdriver leverings and (in one case) opening out a hole they hadn't bothered drilling all the way through later and we got it together. You know how your parents' bed always seemed to be the biggest bed ever, bigger than the room, you needed a stepladder to get into it and you didn't know how anyone could make beds so good? We have one of those now. It is the bed as big as a boat.

The estate agent called to say the landlord would be around to fix stuff tomorrow, so we have to get the house tolerably tidy in a hurry. Or not get stuff fixed. Yay.

If global warming continues to be an issue and the polar icecaps do indeed melt you can use it as an ark. Arkady would, of course, be in command (oh gods, I hate myself for saying that, but I am weak).

We figure if London property prices consider on their present path, we can put it somewhere and put a tent over it. Get broadband into it and it should appreciate about £10k in a week.

Not really. My parents slept in separate twin beds, and I got a functionally identical one as soon as I was old enough to not be in a crib.

I've had one of those beds for years now. It's a huge queen four poster, and the top of the mattress is nearly a meter off the ground. If my taste in bedframes was influenced by anything, it was by my aunt's bed, which had a frame of solid cherry (headboard, footboard, and side rails).

It will be replaced at some point in the near future with something even larger, since $fiance has a California King mattress set. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be able to replace it with a nearly exact (only larger) copy.

This bed cost us nearly One Thousand Pounds. (That's in stuff called "money," unlike the leaves and banana skins I understand you 'Merkins pretend to exchange for goods, services, rocks and twigs.) And I lie in it and feel every lovely penny. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

On hold to them about the 4th drawer now. Been on hold for at least 15 - 20 minutes on a geographical number, grrrr!

Got through, the supplier has your mobile number, so the person I spoke to is going to chase them up about why we haven't heard anything.
