I must post about my first day at work. The entire blogosphere is waiting!

"Nice suit," my boss said. "Don't wear it again. You'll scare everyone else. New Media already has one consultant in."

It was a first day, so nothing much got done. I shuffled piles of paper, questioned the "we 0wnz0r j00" clause regarding intellectual property in the contract (we'll be getting a written clarification it's specifically about stuff generated in the course of my work, which is fine), got enough of the paperwork done to be in the August payroll run (aaand exhale) and actually did some work, mostly updating stuff in CVS (they don't let the devs do that to the live code — the sysadmins have to do it) and installing random Perl modules on development systems. Tomorrow I start my day with diagnosing and fixing clone failing make test. Yay! My workstation is a 2.7GHz 1Gb Winders XP box with two 17" LCDs. I browse using Seamonkey.

I have a new default and favourite icon. Dita with absinthe, courtesy apiphile (whose icon making is fabbo). I suspect it will be universally applicable.

Wow. You could be so hotter if you cut your hair neat and dressed all dapper old gentleman -- rather than pushing the 'he's hip; he's cool; he's 45!' look with the long hair and t-shirts.

Throw in some blue shirts and/or blue ties to light up those eyes and you could do magic!

Must be yours. I don't do enough caffeine or alcohol to hallucinate from either.

It occurs to me that I'd probably start to vibrate from the caffeine long before I'd start to hallucinate, which leads me to wonder if caffeine could be a substitute for batteries even though it isn't a substitute for either sleep or sheep.
