  • It's a good thing she points out she was never a g*th, she just, uh, knows lots about it and had lots of g*th friends. It's clear she needs a complimentary pass for two to B-Movie this month. Chuck in a free drink each to make sure she shows up. (Any journalist passing up a free drink is chucked out of the NUJ.) I strongly suggest you email her suggesting B-Movie as a top night out for retired post-punks-in-black.

  • I wonder how long before a significant Debian faction reacts to this sort of thing by openly declaring war on Ubuntu. The question is then how Ubuntu could replace universe and multiverse. And how Debian could, for that matter. And whether testing a replacement process wouldn't be a good idea anyway. Hey, it worked for Mozilla.

  • I liked this eminently sensible blog entry on IT professional integrity. Though I bet he still doesn't understand how it's gotten no comments at all. Note there appears no way to email him directly either.

  • Look at a page of random photos from reddragdiva.co.uk (when the server rebuild is stable and in place). I hadn't realised this was there before and am quite enjoying it myself.

Hrm - we just decided to take Ubuntu over debian for the new server; the lead time for software was just getting too much.

Debian seems as dysfunctional as many community groups and political organisations. Small trot groups have this in abundance, which is one reason why there are so damn many of them..

All groups need a god king with a large cattle prod.

Oh and I found this:

http://www.netsplit.com/blog/tech/debian/having_left_debian.html

and this from the other side:

there's probably some rabid stuff somewhere too.

Eminently sensible? "You can't do anything against management, so yell at your coworkers for disagreeing with you about the effectiveness of the Next Cool Thing, or I'll shun you"? I agree with his perception that *a* problem exsists, but it's not an issues of incorrect IT behavior or professional turpitude as much as it is a lack of communication and respect between those with understanding and those that give direction. As things are, where I've worked, IT has not given up doing the right thing where they can, and minimizing the damage where they can't.

Rule one of the world: if somebody says "I'm not a goth, but a lot of my friends are goths, so I feel I can say something on the matter" - just stop listening. Right there. Zup. Zupzup. Stoppit. Nooo, not a word, not even an eyebrow more. Just stop.

And one should clearly use liquid eyeliner, none of this fridge business. Goodness me, do these people have eyelashes?

This doesn't bother me in the slightest. It just means that it'll be easier to buy cheap clothes on the High Street that I actually like. The bit at the end ("remember this is just fashion, not a lifestyle choice...") made me laugh, though, largely because every goth I know is clearly a necrophilliac Satanist with a penchant for blaaaaaaaaaad.

I personally can't deal with liquid eyeliner, it stings and it gets messy. Pencil with a slick of lipcote over designs on the sides of the eyes does the trick just as well if not better.

I'm still not a goth, though.

If I didn't think that 59 was a bit too old, I'd buy a bustier in red leather and a crushed velvet skirt and bodice. Or suede black pants, red leather bustier, and a black silk lace bodice with sleeves.

I actually use black theatrical bodypaint applied with a 0000 sable brush. Works far better and is pretty much hypoallergenic to boot.

It also acts very well as lipliner....

Perhaps I'll make web banners for all the models with carefully-chosen excerpts of our photos. (The ass photo, as far as I know, will not actually be in the calendar.)

I liked them both!

To be honest, though, I did not look at the spreadsheet. Sorry. I guess that just means I double-liked your ass.

Shite. What a load of bollocks that article is! As mentioned above, how can stating "I'm not a goth, but..." entitle her to pass fashion advice on something she claims not to know about? And how many stereotypes can you fit into one article? A thorough knowledge of Wicca, my arse!

Anyway, wasn't goth in fashion a couple of years ago? Or was that just down here?

Thanks for the link and I'm glad I hit the referrals page to find it. I'm not sure why you think there's no way to comment (unless you don't like the passport requirement. Understandable but not something I can do anything about. :(

At any rate, I popped a comment of my own on the post with my email in it if you want to comment. I am very interested in any comments you might have on the topic.

I can't disagree with you, there, really :). It generally annoys me, too. I'd change it if it were an option...
