Congratulations to webcowgirl on having achieved the necessary physical component of her London dream, having arrived in body at least just a couple of hours ago. We will all do whatever we can to make the rest work.

Today I am adding Windows boxes to the Amanda backup config and fielding trouble reports from large media companies about problems we have no power over. Doing okay on appeasement duty.

i don't entirely follow the "got fired for buying MS" story. didn't the predecessor in fact get fired for *not* buying MS?

Got fired for incompetently fucking everything up by buying a bit of MS.

Or rather, buying crap proprietry software that depended on Windows, then someone else got the company into hot water for running Windows without the necessary licences. A nice win-win resolution though, hopefully (must read the follow ups when they get posted).
