It's a lovely sunny Sunday and I'm sitting in my front room having a brain in neutral day and waiting for the band of tension around my skull to loosen. I am playing Nouvelle Vague, who I was put onto by [livejournal.com profile] duranorak and whose albums I bought from eMusic. [livejournal.com profile] arkady will want to kill me with an axe very soon, but I'll play them until then. The Cramps do nicely with a bossa nova beat and "Marian" should be hammered up Eldritch's nose.

We are tearing out our remaining hair wondering how the hell to fit our stuff around the owner's. The owner is tearing out his remaining hair wondering what to do with his furniture that we can't possibly fit in here. To do: repack boxes so more stuff fits in less. Put my stuff in the foldaway wardrobe. Package stuff we don't need on hand to shove in the loft. (Obtain stepladder.) Put stuff into shelves even if they're presently in the wrong room. Stack or at least move furniture in the dining room before Tuesday so the Sky engineer can actually run the cable from the dish to the front room. Hit Homebase with the 20% off voucher BT gave us for having been fuckheads and spend a fortune. Hit Ikea and do the same (without the discount).

This week: Monday is Neil Gaiman. Tuesday is [livejournal.com profile] sweh and [livejournal.com profile] syringavulgaris' BOFH drinks. Wednesday is [livejournal.com profile] d_floorlandmine's curry. Thursday is Terry Pratchett. Friday is [livejournal.com profile] incy for dinner then Dreadnought. Saturday is [livejournal.com profile] yaruar and [livejournal.com profile] kirsten2's wedding. Sunday is gibber in a small heap, I suspect. I also suspect some of these will fall off the list along the way.

Hang on, is that the one with the, umm, ditzy version of "Too Drunk To Fuck"? That came on last.fm when I was listening to the recommendations thing and I was all, oh OK...

[livejournal.com profile] the_xtina introduced me to Nouvelle Vague, and j'adore. I must make a mental note to download their stuff from eMusic.

It was an event put on by Blackwell (a small chain of bookstores here in the UK) and the Observer (the Sunday version of The Guardian newspaper). We went to one last year where he did a reading from "Anansi Boys" and was interviewed by Lenny Henry, which was a lot of fun, especially as they're good friends, with a Q&A and signing afterwards. This time it was just NG, reading out a couple of pieces from "Fragile Things", with a Q&A (incorporating a FAQ to streamline things) and a signing. He comes across as incredibly down to earth and endearing.
