Saturday is the busy day on call for us, but everything worked fine. Nothing is scheduled today until 11:30pm, so unless the phone goes I'll be Very Happy. I am currently hard at work sitting up in bed next to redcountess, who is crocheting dollie clothes, reading LiveJournal and listening to Chaos Engine Obstinate.

Landlord finally called last night and popped over around half eleven. He's getting someone in himself ASAP, today or tomorrow (because otherwise I'll be calling the guy who quoted a thousand quid) and is kicking himself for not getting a gas inspection earlier. GOOD! I do expect action soon. Then I can actually wash and, ah, not smell and stuff.

the_axel, what's your daytime schedule this week? I can be away from the house between about 8:30am and 6pm weekdays.

When the somebody he's getting in himself ASAP arrives, do not let them into the house until they show you paper evidence that they are CORGI registered. When you kick out one dickhead, they so so often get another one just the sodding same. Our old bodging builder has been replaced, for example, by a different one 10 years younger, Italian and whose stupidity has not yet been shown to be quite as great as Mr Dockerill's.

I'd get another CORGI registered person, not hired by the landlord, to inspect the first one's work.

It's the official qualification, and they're expensive because they have to be good. If they are found to have bodged it, they are in such deep shit that it's reasonable to presume their honesty. We might get another check if we want to be REALLY sure, but I would be fairly confident about any CORGI-certified gas fitter.
