WE HAVE HEAT. AND WATER. OH MY GOD. I think I lost two kilos just in grease when I had a shower last night. Workmen came and fitted a new flue and replastered.

Friday: date with [livejournal.com profile] eyeliner297. I desperately needed to go out and party with the g*ths, so told Abi to come out with me. I'd forgotten what fun it is taking a young girlie out and showing her a gentlemanly good time. We went to the Dev, then to Bar Monsta for Devilish Presley, then back to the Dev until chucking-out. Devilish Presley were fantastic and Bar Monsta is so hot, sweaty and smoky it makes the Dev seem cool, clean and lovely. I took lots of photos on the Ixus i, which was a mervellous device except when it completely failed to get focus. Apparently I have to take Abi out regularly.

Saturday: date with [livejournal.com profile] redcountess, seeing Motorhead again at Brixton Academy. They didn't have the Bomber rig or the ex-members guesting. First band was a German Swedish all-female band called Crucified Barbarella, who played twiddly muso shite. Second was Clutch, a somewhat bluesy-hardcore band from the US, who were actually really good. And had a good old hardcore punk fat guitarist. Motorhead were pretty damn fine as well. Liz thinks she saw Brian May sitting two rows ahead of us.

Sunday: date with [livejournal.com profile] gothgeekgirl, visiting from the US again, to go shopping in Camden. She is on medication that upsets her stomach, which hampered our day a bit, but the catchup was marvellous.

Monday: date with [livejournal.com profile] arkady. We haven't gone out to dinner in ages, so we went to Chez Gérard in Covent Garden. She had veal (the only meat she's been able to keep down in the evenings for a while) and I had beef bourgignon. The waitress giggled when she saw my name on my card. Came home to [livejournal.com profile] gothgeekgirl visiting Liz. HAD A SHOWER. Here's to plumbing.

Tonight: date with Ikea. I start on clearing space for the stuff Liz, Arkady and [livejournal.com profile] secretlondon bought two weeks ago.

So how was your weekend?

So how was your weekend?

i got sent home ill form work on friday, and slept for about 16 hours. then on Saturday we tried to rent a van, and the place was inexplicably shut. then my car broke in an expensive way, stranding us a long way from home, forcing me to freeze, hitchhike, and take a bus, before borrowing the world's worst smelling Fiesta.
on sunday i slept in, puttered about the house, then chatted to various friends on various types of IM for half the night, which cheered me up no end.
so my weekend was shit, SHIT, SHIT, and pretty good. :)

*sigh* still not been paid, still not heard about this job I was interviewed for on Friday, still not had the property management agent for next door turn up to get our post out of there, since the fuckwit postman can't tell 1b from 3a, in spite of the number of our flat being right next to our letter box. Spent the weekend mostly moping about and ripping CDs.

That icon is just perfect for the first line of this post.

Don't know about rockets... change the engine, drop the suspension a little, build in a nitro turbocharge, that kind of thing.... ;-)

And I could probably do all that now if it weren't for the fact that (a) it's winter, (b) there's nowhere to park it whilst I do it, and (c) the rate the bump is growing, I probably couldn't fit under the car soon anyway!

(Yes, I know the icon is a motorbike. I don't have any "car" icons....)

A mate once built a V8 turbocharged trike. Using the back end of a Volvo of all things. It was truly a beast in every sense of the word.

Hey - that's the answer to me getting a motorbike - I'll get a trike instead! :-D

I always wanted to trike a hearse. ;-)

They didn't actually replaster, you can see the external wall (and the hole will need some sort of filler to keep the wind out, as there's a gap). And Crucified Barbara are actually Swedish, as I noted on my post :-)

I'll take a look at it and see what it needs.

(Hmm. I'm going to need a DIY icon at this rate...)

A word to the wise - leave a lot longer than you anticipate between plastering it and turning the boiler back on again - any moisture still in the plaster will cause it to crack as it warms up :-)

Might be a project for the warmer weather...

[livejournal.com profile] audiovile opines that Clutch "absolutely destroys" when seen live, but their albums are really not up to snuff.

I had a four-day weekend. Yay!

Thursday was taken up with Thanksgiving stuff. Had pumpkin pie, pumpkin bread, pumpkin cheesecake, and pumpkin soup. Family was well-behaved, and my sister Debbie actually did not drink too much.

On Friday I got out in the unseasonably warm weather and prepared the veggie garden for winter (pulling up dead tomato plants and the like).

On Saturday we gave a man $200 to come out and fix the broken iron railing on the back steps. Which had been broken since July... we would make awful landlords, I'm afraid.

And on Sunday we had a visit from friends Ash and Menzy with their baby Rosemary. Rosemary dustmopped the floor with the front of her romper while we ate up the leftover pumpkin pie.

And speaking of babies, my daughter called me with exciting news which I'm NOT ALLOWED to tell anyone for two months yet but I'm bouncing up and down about anyway!

You three make me laugh with your ability to have whole conversations on LJ when you're probably all in your respective bedrooms, about two metres from eachother. [grin]

My weekend was fabulous but made me go flump a lot. But I already wrote about it, so I shan't repeat myself. :-)

And thanks again for takin me out and for being such an excellent date. We should do that more often!

(And I'm not going to kill you, by the way. No harm done, and it'll probably be good for my liver! [grin])

My plumber isn't here, again. The tile guy wanted to be paid in full without installing a threshhold for the door which is what he had promised would be part of the job, and had not primed the walls. So they're off sulking, I suppose. If it's not done when I turn in the grades, I'll start looking for someone else to finish it.

Never hire a plumber whose helpers have no front teeth or a revoked driver's license appears to be a rule of thumb I'm learning the hard way. Fortunately, all the pieces to complete the job are here now. I just have to change the locks if it gets to that.

Hurray for showers and hot water return. I'd have been climbing the walls without a decent shower as my partner and I both have long hair like you.

I hope you'll tell us all about the LARTing that your landlord gets, as that would be most satisfying.

Mostly lying in bed, too sick to think in a more than superficial manner, playing xpuzzletama.

Oh, and having entirely too much sudden and unplanned excitement with my apartment's steam-powered heating apparatus. Which was followed by an attack of intestinal TMI.

And then there's stress because of important life stuff with deadlines that I hadn't been able to do anything on.

And yet I'm in an oddly good mood, which can only be because of the impending recovery.
