[livejournal.com profile] redcountess and [livejournal.com profile] eyeliner297 rocked out at Iron Maiden last night \m/

I have reached the boredom stage of recovery. Spending this morning and most of this afternoon sleeping was lovely, though. A proper day off! I've been cleaning out my bookmarks (see above) and read my LJ, Slashdot and Groklaw.

My Xmess present did not arrive in time because the seller used ShittyLink, who lied about attempting delivery, calling and leaving a card. We have sent a polite note using the proper phrases concerning distance selling, i.e. if you use a shitty delivery service who make a lie of your promise of "next day delivery," that's your problem and not the buyer's. CityLink also regard it as the seller's problem and don't care about complaints from the buyer. Tra la fucking la!

The Pitchfork piece was good, certainly a lot better than their music reviews. But i must point out that Chuck Klosterman is a douche.

CityLink is TEH SUXORZ. At least one vendor I (occasionally) buy things from have, in the past, after some pone conversations, agreed that shipping via RoyalFail is a better option than shipping with ShittyLink. You may, possibly, have commented of the results from what I buy from them (oh, arse, their on-line shop seems DEAD).

Damnit, people in the humanities can get away with one-word titles for papers. Prof Bhadeshia in our department, who works on a strong phase of steel called bainite that looks to become incredibly useful in things like railway tracks that don't break as often, has come up with the following titles:
-"Bainite". The paper was returned with the request to use "a more descriptive title". It was generally thought that this title was perfectly descriptive enough.
-"Large lumps of strong steel". I don't remember whether this was accepted as is or not, but it was exactly the point of the paper.

Couldn't find either title. He's got plenty of papers with subtitles, like "Bainite:..." and "Bainite in Steels:..."

We've just had a paper's title expanded from something simple to something horrific, "Effects on Damping of 3d, 4d, and 5d Dopants in Ni81Fe19."

The reviewer (who's a good guy) told the journal specifically that the old one was too flashy.

I couldn't really give a damn about gaming, but I still read Penny Arcade.
