Convergence 13 appears to have been taken over by a herpes virus with a penis, in black. Not as bad as Cliff Low with C7, but anyway. So Mr C13 applies his efforts to engineering a gothapalooza for C14, falls flat on his face and whines like a little bitch. And holy gosh, half the alt.gothic diaspora is showing up back there!

I just thought you'd like to know. The initial thread was long enough to break Google Groups. Check your ISP doesn't still have an NNTP feed. And pop in and say hi. Anyone with alt.gothic as an LJ interest qualifies.

(a.c.g is tumbleweeds, but Sandro still posts movie reviews.)

The "whines" link doesn't work - permalinking in Google Groups is possible but not always easy.

That just takes it to the main thread . . . what is the number/author of the post in question?

And, yes. My displeasure with the C13 committee (and their decisions/actions) has been quiet due to confidentiality reasons, but let us simply say that once that is no longer an issue, I will be administering a solid tongue-lashing and ass-kicking to certain people involved. *snarls*

And this has nothing to do with the shows -- I'm actually really excited to see FLA and Skinny Puppy, even though they're totally inappropriate bands *for Convergence* . . .

I do wish that there was a better newsreader out there -- I dropped out of AG/AGF when Google Groups changed their format :/

Take the Jeff-boy approach: He pees in your cornflakes, you stick a rusty fork in his nards.

Nah, that's still a wee little thread, and nowhere close to breaking Google. There's one thread over in rec.arts.sf.written that's over 11000 posts.

Yes, that's one of the subthreads. Probably the only one that's still alive, but I can't be arsed to check.

I forget exactly what it was that I warned everybody against back in the day on alt.gothic, but I'm sure that it was something like this.

Anyway, I'm going to take this oppertunity to say a big "I Told You So" to everyone who didn't read my posts back then and say, "Jack is wise and thoughtful, and we should listen to everything he says, as if it were a pronouncement from On High, because otherwise, in five years, we will have whiny little bitches on alt.gothic."

(Or maybe it's been six or seven years. Time flies and all that.)

I'm still drunk.
Isn't that wonderful?

Anyway, what did you warn us about, lo, so many years ago? I honestly can't recall.

Ah, drunk. I miss getting drunk.

What I warned about, if I remember correctly, is that bands at Convergence were a bad idea if you wanted the focus to be on a get-together, as opposed to a music festival.

I saw that every year the bands were becoming a bigger and bigger part of Convergence, and squeezing out the net.goth get-together part, turning it into Gothapalooza, and I warned people, but did they listen? Nope.

Of course, I had other reasons for disliking the bands being there. None of them were bands that *I* gave a crap about, and if I did want to go see bands, I could do that without traveling half way across the country to do it, and only spend on bands that I actually *liked*.

What I wanted was actually something more like a SF con, only net.goth oriented, with a dance with some DJ's in the evening for a few hours, and then room parities at night, and plenty of hanging out during the day.

I especially like the part where the person from the other committee that got disqualified says that they understand and support the decision.

(Sigh. Why did I read that whole thing? I'm not even a goth.)
