About bloody time. We'll see if this goes anywhere. (Induction was not an option.) [livejournal.com profile] deathboy says "tell her about bloody time, the lazy wench (from a safe distance)" due to an obvious deathwish.

Re "About bloody time", in but a few days you will look back upon this morning and think about how peaceful it was, then realise that it will be at least eighteen years before it is so peaceful again ;-P

Have a safe delivery. I would say quick, but that's gone out the window at this point. Just breathe, legs up, and PUSH when the time comes. I will be relieved, of course, not nearly as much as all of you, but still relieved. Freda will be a very strong child, no doubt, just like her family.

Cheers to you all.

I saw that doc, and I really really want to poke the writer of that article about a few things that he's gotten factually incorrect.

Personally, I think Sweeney gave a good account of himself and behaved pretty decently, since there's a couple of times when I would have just headbutted the obnoxious, threatening Scientologist nut-job who kept hounding him, had I been in his shoes.

Well that dude's getting the slap he deserves in his comments ("Blair a Marxist?") so I'll just leave it at that.

We state funded commie bastards are so unreasonable to object to the poor little Scientologists' kidnappin', thievin' and murderin' shenanigans. Clearly we should stick to getting blown up by American helicopters instead.

I popped over to her journal to wish her luck, even though she doesn't know me!

And good luck to all three of you in the coming months!

The Scientology HQ in Edinburgh burned down when I lived there. They pushed an unstable little pal of mine too far, & he decided they must be destroyed. They never caught him, either, as far as I know.

Please, how's the childbirth going?

After all the weeks of reading updates, those of us who have been following every one closely need a blow-by-blow account!

Panorama really wasn't much of anything. There was no 'story' other than all involved seemed to be behaving like arsehats. Surprise!

A bit like a horror movie, an article like that manages to be supremely scary and very funny at the same time. One cannot but think, these people cannot be serious... except they are...

Serious question: why wasn't induction an option? Do they only really do that with mega-late babies?

Indeed. I just found this one (http://groups.google.com/group/sci.space.history/browse_thread/thread/643ad5b6f2a0f8e6/a43d732c58bcc87e?lnk=st&q=STS-1+DISASTER%2C+COVERUP&rnum=1&hl=en#a43d732c58bcc87e) the other day, and found it absolutely riveting.

Induction is not an option for a number of reasons:

1) Because according to WHO, "full-term" is defined as anywhere between 37-42 weeks.
2) Because I have an extreme phobia of needles which means the only method of induction possible is prostin (an application of prostaglandin gel or pessary). If that had failed, an oxytocin drip would not be possible so it would be straight to c-section under general anaesthetic, putting me out with gas. The attitude of the registrars was that they would book me in for the c-section anyway because they expected the prostin to fail.
3) Because they were pushing for an induction on the basis of a suspected hindwater leak which they refused to distinguish from a full-on rupture of membranes ("waters breaking"); an ultrasound on Wednesday confirmed that my waters were intact and therefore no reason for an induction. If they'd performed an ultrasound on Saturday I would have been spared 5 days of stress and anxiety which was effectively causing labour to stall completely.

Babies come when they are ready; the birth process is triggered by hormones released by the baby when it is ready to be born. If labour doesn't start spontaneously, there's usually a damned good reason for it. There is no such thing as a baby that refuses to be born - but far too many cases of doctors railroading women into unwanted inductions and interventions because the woman isn't "performing" to their timetable.

Looks like they're not going to cover it during today's show. It might be worth sending an email to james@lbc.co.uk and giving him an overview.
