Actual sleep last night. I should try to get used to this. I've switched from citalopram to escitalopram (citalopram loses effectiveness after about eighteen months), with much less side effects so far ... except sleeping way too light. And TEH HORN, but I blame spring for that as well.

My daughter remains utterly lovely. I was pottering about tidying last night and it struck me that I AM DAD NOW. As in the suburban role model. O NOEZ! I mean, I knew this. But I know it more now.

I am still looking for what to do tonight. Anyone up for something?

I think its amazing, and absolutely brilliant that we have a parent right there that was willing to listen to there child, and actually embrace them rather than badgering them into being something they aren't or don't want to be. I think its even better that he set aside any preconceptions he had and actually gave it a shot, and let his daughter do the same. I think more people should do the same, and as Elsa basically said, be less afraid of the truth.

Our article seems to imply it's basically the same stuff. Escitalopram is an isomer of citalopram? (and it's only that isomer that is active)

I was wondering about that. But apparently you can in fact move from citalopram to escitalopram when the former loses its effectiveness. They also tend to be packaged as different salts.

The Ed Vulliamy article reminds me very much of how things were with my father and myself when I was a similar age to Elsa - and she reminds me very much of how I was at age 11. I didn't have the internet, but I did have penpals and we swapped mix tapes of new stuff.

It's heartening to read of so many venues that actually welcome fans that young for gigs; I wonder if we'll see more venues opening their doors to the younger crowd once the smoking ban comes in?

Most SSRIs do. They're not actually designed for extended longterm use. Eventually the body builds up a tolerance and they cease to be as effective. Upping the dose won't work either - the maximum effective dose is 30mg. Beyond that you just get an increase in side effects but no increase in efficacy.

I know :( I've been on Citalopram for 5 odd years now, and I can't come off because I crash so dramtically.

Planing a detox once I've done my Java exam, as the Mirtazipine is making me fat and citalopram is doing nothing. I hate being depressed but I think I hate pain more. May switch to Escitalopram, because its the effective isomer of citalopram the change may do me some good.

That's pretty much why I suggested escitalopram to Diva; being the next-gen on from citalopram, it will have a very similar side-effect profile, but be just different enough to citalopram as to be effective. If and when he should reach the 18-month limit with escitalopram, he'll have had a long enough break from citalopram to be able to go back to it and it'll be effective again. In theory one could switch between citalopram and escitalopram on 18-month cycles indefinitely if need be.

If citalopram used to work for you but has ceased to due to being on it so long, I'd seriously suggest you give escitalopram a try.

Sadly, weight gain is a common side effect of Mirtazipine; however weight loss is a side effect of both citalopram and escitalopram so if you make the switch, you'll hopefully find you soon lose the weight you gained on Mirtazipine.

? This just isn't my experience - been on it for coming up three years. I *really* notice the difference in terms of anxiety still. And Lil takes 60mg, which is much more effective for her than 30. It must vary from person to person?
