It's the start of my first time off (a whole *week*!) since Christmas, so I'm up for a pint or ten...

The Oakdale Arms beer festival is still going on. I believe some random goths might turn up (although some of them are looking double-booked). We still have lots of beer (and cider!) - it was relatively quiet on Tuesday and Wednesday and only really started to get busy on Thursday night.

Ok. I wanted to ask first as I didn't want to sound wankish about it. Reply to me in email if it's more appropriate there.

For what reason was the "Crystal Gail Mangum" article on Wikipedia deleted? Wasn't it factual?

"Factual" is absolutely not enough and hasn't been since the Seigenthaler fuckup in late 2005. The policy on biographies of living people is incredibly hardarsed (and likely to only get harder), and says that everything noted must also be notable in itself. This is because Wikipedia's Google pagerank is such that if you create an article on someone, it's promptly the first hit on their name. I expect a hideous cull of living bio articles soon.

If someone's famous for basically one incident, it goes to the incident article. The Mangum article was turning into a carefully-researched stalker piece - it had her high school GPA for fuck sake, which is just creepy. I believe it's currently redirected to the incident, which is indeed the only thing she's famous for.

It's part of the curse of being a vastly popular top-10 website - you can't do things in an orderly, considered manner sometimes. Which sorta sucks, and I expect it to suck worse later.
