I GOT PAID!

(This almost makes up for spending three hours on a nominal one-hour bus journey I allowed two hours for ... not that I have anything to ahahaha do here in any case.)

So, I think it's Party Weekend. Marlborough Head then maybe Sluts meet Thursday, Tenebrae Friday, major shopping expedition Saturday. Who's going to MH, Sluts or Tenebrae?

Installing Sun Java on FreeBSD is not only a long-winded Pain In The Arse (source-available non-Free licence), but broke halfway through. Of course the 'native' FreeBSD Java pulls in the Linux Java and the Red Hat compatibility module! How could I have thought otherwise? Anyone know if Kaffe works worth shit yet?

mr hellsop alerted me you are in the process of discovering the joys of using Java under fBSD.

First the linux-jdk1.3 is pretty durn stable.
linux-jdk1.4 from what I've heard has a few problems.

the native jdk is only 1.2.2 and hasn't passed the compatibility tests, but people seem to like it (patchset 11 is current).

and to build a jdk you need another jdk, hence to build the native one you need either a previous version of the native jdk, or the linux one :)
[binaries for a native jdk cannot be distributed until the port passes the tests, legal/expensive crapola]

and no I haven't used kaffe.

hope this helps :)

yes it is very annoying.

However the port has been hand patched by the FreeBSD java team, no relation to Sun.

Sun is stupid in that they won't give out the JCK (test suite) for the JDKs without a license, and then only to a limited number of people (1 for fBSD) who are under NDA and can't use parts of the JCK for other engineers to use as test cases when attempting to fix problems.

and the linux jdk is not used to verify the native jdk, but the Compile parts of it, so I'm not sure what you have on your hands at this point.
