Last Friday's photos from bmovie are up at last. Usual policy, comment here or email if you love or hate a shot. Please also label any with names missing. This has gotta be the shot of the night. Gimp 2.3/2.4 (now in Ubuntu Gutsy) is so much nicer than Gimp 2.2, it's almost usable.

My camera is dying *sob* The LCD's badly cracked (despite the perspex shield), the zoom lever switch for zooming back out has stopped working and the lens barrel is showing signs of an incipient E18 error. I've only been beating the living crap out of it for eighteen months. Tch! Obviously I must buy a Fuji F31fd. Or someone else should buy me one! *prrprrprr*

No, someone should buy me an F31fd, and then you can borrow it. We've already established in the past that you are the Death of cameras but if they're technically mine, they last for ever!

I'm mostly interested in an F30 or F31fd for the remarkable low-light performance. Usable ISO 1600? I might never use the flash again.

Sorry, I do apologise - *blush* - having checked, hers is an F47fd, not F31fd. It appears to be ISO2000 rated - but whether that's usable I don't know. I haven't been entirely impressed with the low-light performance on hers - the 31 may well be much better for that, I don't know.

What I do like about the 47 (I don't know if the 31 has the same function, as I don't know what it's called) is the setting which allows you to take two shots in quick succession, one with the flash and one without, so that you can then decide later which is the better shot.

...And that is the question I was going to ask. The Nikon has usable ISo1600 but it's not a taking-to-clubs camera.

Well, yeah. Real cameras with real lenses and real sensors tend to do pretty well!

The DPreview article sums it up. Note that the F30/F31 is the only compact to be any use at all above ISO 400. (Not sure if the F40 or F50 are similarly good.)
