Liz and I got our postal votes yesterday and will be committing democracy as soon as we can reasonably get to a post office.

This laptop runs so much better under Ubuntu Gutsy than XP. Compiz with effects turned up to "silly" is marvellous fun and the flopsy windows never fail to impress. Has anyone tried it with Kubuntu? (Update: yes.) If I run GNOME any longer I'm going to take an axe to it.

Liz, Arkady and Freda are all still ill. Curse the three-week flu. Freda gets even more excited playing on BabySplat than on AlphaBaby. And it works under Wine if you remember to set up the audio device with winecfg!

I'm deeply pissed off at the moment for excellent reasons. And going stir crazy as well. Need to go out this weekend. Desperately want the cash for an event next weekend but am unlikely to have it in time, which is all manner of fuckery and symptomatic of the grind.

That's a very nice keyboard. I think this wireless one will be heading for the bin soon because frankly, it really is garbage. Wireless mouse, great, the wire gets in the way when I'm using it. Wireless keyboard that drops keys...useless.

I'm guessing that keyboard might be a tad pricey though, any other recommendations of a good study keyboard? Robust and short travel ideal, no real need for USB mic or volume controls on there.

An old IBM Model M. You can buy one new from the company that bought the licence, or you can find second-hand examples aplenty. A keyboard you can get a really good swing with.

Windows crack doesn't run on my desktop. I think it objects to the Gforce MX4 chip. I have a better graphics card somewhere but I took it out as it seemed like overkill for web browsing, and I reckoned my little shuttle would prefer the space and lack of hot current drawing things.
