  • I've only waited 11½ years for this. ([livejournal.com profile] trayce: "I think I need a cigarette now.")

The new Dev is much the same as the old Dev except it smells like paint and there's squirty soap in the gents. And the beer prices have gone up. Nice catchup with [livejournal.com profile] valkyriekaren, and [livejournal.com profile] elevenwords looking fabulous. Birthday drink pics.

AntiChrist was pleasant enough ... I'm glad I didn't pay, though. Mortgage-priced drinks, incompetent cloakroom. The music wasn't bloody awful techno, thankfully. The difference between a goth club and a fetish club is the fat guys with their cocks out, apparently a legal requirement of running a fetish club in London. They're supplied by the council or something. I realised I was a goth watching one of the extruded transgression product strip shows, seeing the incredibly beautiful and luscious naked woman writhing about and thinking "damn ... those are nice boots." [livejournal.com profile] mr_flay's mad scientist escapologist zombie strip show was a complete winner.

(I recall many years ago, a strip club in Perth [I forget the name] that was twinned with an alternative-pop nightclub [the Firm]. A friend was a barmaid in the strip club, and I'd go in to say hi. Her boyfriend would sit there for a few hours resolutely staring at the top shelf drinks. Not to avoid the naked women, but to avoid seeing the customers. Concentrated essence of surplus futile desire.)

There were bands too. I finally saw The Problem Being, who aren't too bad at all. When you've seen as many small bands as I have you'll know what high praise that is. Myspace indie with guitar, bass, real drums and keyboard and a New Romantic sorta look. Would see again.

Too cold. Bah.

I can't say I've ever been to a fetish club. Although I have been to burning man - and that fulfills all of my social needs for almost a whole year. I'm also not sure I should even compare it to a fetish club.

LOL 'tis true
but I think you will also find that the fetish club has a slightly higher percentage of the legal profession ;)

more seriously, okay it isn't pretty, but at the end of the day isn't it nice to go to a club where people can be that relaxed?

I viewed your comments on [livejournal.com profile] poggs' LJ not long after posting my own here and it did make me sit down and have a re-think.

No, keep on going. Don't stop just when it's getting interesting.

I've been to a set of fetish events and they were entirely not what I have come to expect from a g*th same. Open, accepting, very couply and terrifically middle-class.

I think I see more androgyny at g*th events; everyone's dressed up (if one ignores the jeans-and-t-shirt contingent), rather than there being the stereotypical nude bloke being led around by some bored-looking latex clad model.

Perhaps the jeans-and-t-shirt lot are the g*th equivalent of Nude Bloke.

Perhaps I need to visit a wider spectrum of fetishy things.

Many are actually Tories. They are just people dressed up, some in very expensive gear. You can't presume they are alternative at all.

Yeah, now that I think about it some more, every scene is as bitchy as the next. Even the Young Farmers. To ascribe some kind of notional perfection or alleged niceness to one scene above another just means you've not been involved quite long enough.

People are basically a bit rubbish.

I'm not entirely convinced that being a Tory stops you being alternative. Perhaps your idea of alternative is different to mine. I have a very safe, corporate job and I've bought a flat and house prices interest me. I still have an extremely alternative outlook and a slightly alternative look (as in the way I dress). Admittedly the idea of being Tory doesn't exactly fill me with glee, but you can be a Tory and have other things going on.

I may have to add you to my flist just for that comment!(if you don't mind)

Fetish clubs aren't goth clubs, and goths in fetish clubs can often be a problem, by bringing in certain attitudes, which are fine in a goth club I hasten to add, but are inappropriate in the setting of a fetish club. Bit like when they let trendies/townies into goth nights really(okay exactly like trendies/townies).

Date: 2007-11-25 12:57 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] purplegril.livejournal.com
Of course you can add me :D

I think I'm just very confused because I honestly expect most people of any sort of alternative persuasion to be very accepting and a hurt by people I'm friends with being so bitchy to strangers and they'll say to your face "Oh, not you, YOU'RE fine, not like that minger". I'm neither slim nor particularly beautiful, but if I should choose to go to a fetish event buck naked, I don't expect people to be giggling or making narky comments behind my back. Nor do I expect people to take the piss of the way I choose to dress at a goth event, and posts like these make me think it probably does happen which makes me wonder whether I really want to go out and be judged like that.

My philosophy is "Be nice and spread the love". Honestly, if people would just be nice to each other, that's all it takes. I'd rather be friends with the random naked man than a young, perfect looking, perfectly dressed beautiful man who thinks he can laugh at the naked man any day.

I've seen a lot of comments about 'saggy' this and 'saggy' that. Well yeah, people get saggier the older they get. Doesn't mean they shouldn't feel sexy and enjoy themselves. Grr...and more grrr....

/end rant

No, no slim but really quite beautiful.

To loose themselves due to their heard up their own arses.

All the rest I agree with, I do tend towards the bitchy side of clothing but I do try to spread my bitching across everyone.

I only every judge you in the fact you dress well and if you do go to an event naked it will be because you will feel elegant and beautiful and radiate that feeling.

I do think the cross over events are a little odd, an I would not go due to not wanting to feel uncomfortable or making other people feel uncomfortable.

Goths are different things and it can be all about what you look like and what you are wearing. I wouldn't be surprised that the goths spent their time rating everyone's outfits - that's what they do.
