I have this laptop booted into Windows specifically to use AutoWikiBrowser. Minefield is precisely the same as on Linux. I'm just amazed how much hotter it runs, though.

It's been a rollercoaster week. Where we once had four cats, we now have one — Tom went missing last year, Neo went missing a month ago and last week a neighbour found Kynaston dead in her back yard. Scuffs on his back claws — he'd clearly been hit by a car and only made it to the first safe yard he could. We presume Tom and Neo went the same way. We'd like to get another kitty for Madam to play with, but not while we live on a main road — that's the third cat I've lost to a main road.

[livejournal.com profile] arkady's daughters are coming to stay with us for a week! So I've just had to cancel an evening with [livejournal.com profile] pndc and come home to clear out the spare room. I hope they enjoy their first taste of London, (ugly, cramped, smelly, expensive) and walking several miles around museums!

I'm on call from Friday evening for a week. Visitors welcome, day or evening.

"Sounds of Silence" one of the 50 worst songs of all time?

Really?

Hmmm.

Looking at the list, even 'We Didn't Start The Fire' doesn't deserve to be on that list.

But thanks for putting Cottonhead Joe in my head.
Really.

I like all of those songs that I've heard of! Except Cottoneye Joe, for obvious reasons.

i'm saddened that they neglected "get out of my dreams and into my car" by billy ocean in that list.

definitely my least favourite song ever.
probably.

most of that list is excreable too.

We could have a discussion about which was the most goth.
Barbie Girl would win on airplay, Starship on the fact they were somehow associated with White Rabbit... oh usenet. So many pointless hours.

i used to like the mr mister video - it was in monochrome - thats pretty goth, innnit?

heh.

damn dont make me go back to the list to search for goth points in the songs!

tho i think the starship link is VERY tenuous!

final countdown is always getting played at the eighties night in whitby...

oh god... i just remembered, ive seen europe live. wow, does that make them more goth, or me just the antigoth?

i expect some people would argue for the gothness of the doors....

i cant think of anything even remotely goffik about any of the other though...

Aw, poor kitties. *( I was often very worried about our cat when we lived on a busy street, even though he was strictly an indoor cat; he would occasionally get the urge to escape, and cars were always rocketing past. I hope you can move someplace safer-for-cats someday.

I think I read somewhere that a cat kept inside lives three to four times as long as a cat left to roam. My policy has always been, "Keep em locked up!" No matter what they want, no cat is stronger than dogs or cars.

Having had cats reach almost 20 when able to roam, I suspect that figure is somewhat bogus.

It is true inside cats live longer - on average.

I suspect that you'd not claim 'three to four times', though.

(Our cats are somewhat of the 'Give me liberty, or give me death' persuasion.)

I'm not claim it, but I'd believe it might be statistically possible, just - depending on if they take feral cats into the sample.

My cats are indoor cats, mostly.

Something to do with computer graphics.
I think the Vectrex (SP) used it.

Visualizing a relationship graph as reflective spheres on top of a checkerboard, maybe?

(As an occasional user of POV-Ray, I definitely either do or do not want to know.)

Maybe it's just in there to stop you getting a diagonal or vertical line in that corner! Blatent fixing. That or there's a lot more poly computer animators than I'd previously thought.

That '50 Worst Songs' thing is pretty much on the money, though I'll admit to a few guilty pleasures in there. But really, claiming that I Would Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That) makes no sense because we don't find out what he won't do? Not actually true - listen to the lyrics of the last section:

After a while you'll forget everything
It was a brief interlude and a midsummer night's fling
And you'll see that it's time to move on

I won't do that! No I won't do that!

I know the territory, I've been around
It'll all turn to dust and we'll all fall down
And sooner or later, you'll be screwing around

I won't do that! No I won't do that!

Yes, yes exactly! I still don't get it when people ask 'what won't he do??' It's right there in the damn lyrics people! ;-)

Diva - so sorry to hear about your cats. :-( I didn't realize you'd lost so many. Definitely sounds like your road is a death trap.

I'd like to claim a point by saying, 'Love is a Battlefield' BTW. ;-)

Solid song list, but Meatloaf is surely exempt. Irony eats itself.

And what on earth is wrong with "Kokomo"?
???
that's right, the answer is nothing.

you will be pleased to know that according to Wikipedia, he didn't write or produce it, and didn't even sing on the original.

I was five when it was #1 in Australia. Apparently it was only a hit in Australia and the US.

That list of songs seems a bit... off, to me. More than a bit, in places.

(Also, just because their god isn't watching them doesn't mean that no-one else's is.)

I noticed that on one of my desktops a few years back - a dual 1Ghz P3. Windows would die and crash the machine after driving the CPUs to silly heat (and they had heatsinks and fans). Under Linux it was happy to sit there for however many days I felt like keeping it on for. Pity all the music software I was trying to run on it was XP-based....
