I have been reading both the best and worst web comics. [livejournal.com profile] arkady has long said she could draw one if someone wrote one, and I've read Your Webcomic Is Bad And You Should Feel Bad and TV Tropes so much that storylines are starting to run through my head.

So. How to make a GODDAMN FORTUNE on the web from PURE EVIL: push EMOTIONAL FETISH PORN.

  • Transgender wish fulfilment. Characters randomly switching gender and having sex. The Wotch does this with the drawing skills of a child. Who can't draw. They ruthlessly plunder the wallets of their hapless devotees. And it's not even porn!

  • Furry porn. Arkady has already considered this. She has a massive advantage over most furry artists by knowing a damn thing about anatomy and perspective.

  • Furry transgender wish fulfilment porn. The "plot" should be Mills and Boon level soap opera. Just enough to make the hopelessly exploited and addicted fans feel it's not evil to follow avidly. Emotional wank fodder. DONATIONS NEEDED! HELP US KEEP UP THE SCHEDULE!

  • Furry transgender wish fulfilment gamer porn. This might be pushing it.

How will we sleep at night? On a huge, soft, comfy pile of MONEY.

It's probably less evil than starting a cult, which she has also considered. I've told her often enough that she won't be happy until she's running her own church, and today's service only reinforced this.

All of this is BS.

These people aren't judging webcomics as webcomics, they're judging them as regular comics. That's not so bad, because people are just writing (bad) regular comics and posting them on the web, anyway.

"Too many words?" Give me a break.

"Able to draw?" Who cares.

Are you familiar with the "Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter" novels (Laurell K Hamilton). She starts out really good, but by the dozenth book (or so), she doesn't have very far left to escalate, so she resorts to furry porn, in the form of warewolves transforming during sex.

The varieties of furry porn in Second Life are fabulous :) I once had a plan to make Open Source (*) anatomically accurate furry genitalia, but my builder let me down..

(*) For some meaning of open source. Basically Second Life add on genitals don't work with genitals of different manufacturers. There was a plan to have a genital communication protocol, but only one manufacturer implemented it. I still managed to script a working vibrator before I got bored..

Truly, the future is here.

You've made me feel wholesome for my anthromorphic koalas, one of whom identifies as a human, web comic idea.

The Wotch

Now when you look at the wotch, there is some good some bad. The Artwork is rather...chibi in style. Which is ok if you like it. The whole TG aspect fine by me. And this is coming from a person who enjoyed Ranma1/2. To me it was Ranma with a little Sabrina the Teenaged Witch. Whatever. The Artist, Anne, does what she does best. She like us is out to make a buck by using her talents, that talent is her imagination and artistic skill. I could care less.

The bad comes from the forum. As a lurker I have observed a few people who I raise an eyebrow at. They look down on new member with discontent, and wait for one screw-up so they can ridicule them and force an apology. And it could be for something as simple as a "mispeling". But some forumers are more level headed than others. Some are not artist, they don't contribute much to the forum, maybe donate, maybe not. But they are a fan. They seem to have an excellent understanding, and they are the people I like. They from no little clubs built on exclusion, they accept there limitations, but strive to do better.
