We have a lovely tabletop dishwasher, purchased from [livejournal.com profile] korenwolf and [livejournal.com profile] megabitch a few years ago. It's done us fantastic service and is definitely my favourite appliance ever. Unfortunately, it's recently started leaving white residue on everything. Can't tell if it's limescale or tablet residue. Running the machine on an empty cycle doesn't shift it. Running the machine on a quick cycle with just rinse aid doesn't shift it. It's had several runs of dishwasher cleaner (limescale remover) that leave it good for the first wash and bad thereafter. We also keep an eye on the salt. Given that a dishwasher isn't a deeply complicated machine in principle, what else is there we could pay attention to that doesn't involve giving the nice repair man far too much money?

Is it looking as if it's leaking water? If so, it might, possib ly, be the seals starting to go. It might also be worth running a few cycles with acetic acid (limescale remover, only cheap) and/or add a smidgen of acetic acid as you go.

You could use 'weak acetic acid' = white vinegar *cough*

That should strip detergent build up without poisoning anyone ;-)

I've got a cache of Graun mugs if you need more...

We don't need any more mugs. We just prefer not to lose the printing on the mugs we already own.

So, run a cycle with no "things with print on". :)

I don't suppose the dishwasher is a Zanussi DCE5655, is it? I only ask because we had one of those and it did the exact same thing. I can't offer any help on how to fix it, because something else on ours broke at the same time, pushing it past the "more economical to fix than replace" point. I just wonder if it's a common fault with the model.

Not the same thing then, fair enough. :)

Sounds like a blockage (food crud, most likely) somewhere in the system. Have you taken the food crud filters out and scrubbed them? Then try waggling bits of wire down all the holes you can find, as the detergent-filled water needs to get out down them.

I know this happened to us a couple times and a paper clip and scrubbing brush sorted it.

yeah I agree....
I say give the filters and hoses a good clean out and then run three cycles empty with limescale remover. I reckon you might have a build up in the water inlet hose, especially if its one of those corrugated hoses

I saw that thing about the bus stealer. We had a developmentally disabled woman here who used to do the same thing here. She stole about 20 buses from the local depot and would spend all day driving the routes and letting everyone travel for free

The best caper I ever got up to as a soundie was when we did a drum and bass night and the crew were asked to do "some sort of backdrop".

No problem. We hijacked the venue's projector and wired up a Playstation (one, so that dates it a bit) to project onto a large white sheet at the back of the stage.

To our surprise, the DJs and MCs thought it was ultra-cool and went for it, so not only did we get to play playstation on a huge screen through a 60k sound rig before the gig, we got to play all the way through it (on headphones) too!

Pfft. I've noticed that gay guys tend to be more circumspect than straight boys, whose tongues are down my throat as soon as they've had a few beers and there's some privacy.

I've completely given up trying to understand body language these days. Anything short of "nice boots, wanna fuck" is probably going to be ignored as a mixed signal...

Well, yeah, that's how you can tell.

The bisexuals just pounce on you in the Pembury. *smooch*.

On that general theme, fancy a pint?

Taste it, would be my advice specifically only in this situation. If it tastes soapy, it's a tablet stuck somewhere; if it tastes like chalk, it's limescaley; if it tastes like anything else, write down what it tasted like.

It's limescale; it comes off the glassware fine with a spot of lemon juice.
