I'm [livejournal.com profile] reddragdiva on Dreamwidth and LiveJournal. This was auto-crossposted from DW. If I get c0d3z I'll be sure to let the world know. Update: No it didn't work. I'll try that again ...

My parents visited this afternoon. The granddaughter passed inspection. She got yet more cuddly toys and a tray of wooden blocks to scatter across the floor and under the couch. And a rainbow lorikeet hand puppet, which immediately attacked [livejournal.com profile] arkady.

The floor in the toilet is not made of chipboard. It's made of plywood. As is the joist, which has also rotted. The cistern now does not so much leak as gush, but the bloke who came around today installed a handy drain, i.e. the gaping hole in the floor. Hilarity ensues.

How are you today?

I still read LJ, even though I only intend to post there. (Though I keep posting here, because of Stuff in my head. I'll move completely eventually.)

Nothing quite like a gaping hole in the floor.

The N90s works with my two full frame Nikon lenses, but not on aperture priority with the Big VR Macro Lens. It was a massively expensive camera in the last century and is all full of nice shiny engineering and computer chips for $95 US plus tax and the cost of a good neck strap. The bargain Hasselblad back from KEH has inspired me to wait on any future lenses for the Hassy and buy them after I can take a look at them, not that it doesn't work okay fine, but it was obviously banged up a bit on one side. I also got an old tripod quick release that fits the plate on the Hassy, works. I suspect modern stuff would work better but this one was priced better.

My birthday presents to me.

I still take most of my pictures with a Coolpix that I carry in my purse.

Your house sounds worse than my house in Philly. Be glad you don't have an insane neighbor who blames anything wrong with her house on the fact that you could afford to have your bathroom rebuilt. On the other hand, you're dependent on the landlord having the money to fix things.

Isn't this the house with the dodgy carpet on the stairs and the weird boiler that wasn't installed correctly, or was that the house before this?

The mechanical metal cameras are holding their own over the last two or three years, but the computerized film SLRs with plastic skins seem to be dropping $100 or more a year for the last three years after a major drop for all used film cameras about five years ago when the professionals dumped their film gear to go digital.

Glad it's a house that is likely to be repaired properly fairly soon. That other house seemed to be really impossible.

I hope the kitchen isn't directly under the bath or plumbed with it.

The trick seems to be to want what pros sold when they went digital. Those might last quite a while if they weren't beaten to death already.

I can get a control back for the N90s (F90X on your side of the pond) for $50, which might be fun.
