Today I did not get sound back through the speakers (and not just the headphone jack) on my Mini 9. Working on the Mini 9 is made of small quantities of arse. It's no harder to work on than any Dell laptop (slightly harder than HPaq, easier than IBM Thinkpad, way easier than Lenovo Thinkpad), just smaller. I did not manage to fix the speaker problem, though I think I've diagnosed it: a cracked plug on the speaker cable, theoretically fixable with a replacement from the dead Mini 9 I have to hand, except I'd need to take the laptop even further apart than I did this time, and I was amazed enough when it worked after today's surgery.

When the lack of sound through the speakers annoys me enough I'll buy another Mini 9 from eBay. Or perhaps even something new. There's a certain point at which application of money is the right answer to the problem.
