Hmm, it must be a deeper ennui.
Nov. 19th, 2002 03:33 pmToday I have done the backups, scared a user's workstation into working properly, set up stuff for a user in Aberdeen, ascertained that I should be able to nick some user's DLT drive for systems' nefarious purposes on Friday, worked out that my esteemed fellow admin (who is currently on holiday) fucked up the network redesign (as far as anyone in London who wants a remote X login to Aberdeen is concerned), and am currently avoiding sorting through some unrelenting tedium regarding our offsite backup storage provider (
kboyd, you were right).
Just because I've got stuff to do doesn't make me less bored, of course. Yesterday we had an honest-to-God fire alarm of the "this is not a drill" variety - someone on the ground floor set some toast on fire, and everyone in the building was evacuated into the nearby park for about ten minutes - and I somehow mentally filed it as not interesting enough to remember to tell
ladylilith about that evening. Huh?
(Not that I want another job. I am profoundly thankful on a daily basis to be employed and of fixed abode. The unexpected overtime is minimal, the pay is regular and up to London costs of living, the network and systems mostly work properly, the company has money, most things that need doing I can do from my desk, I get to think and learn occasionally - as Unix admin employment goes, this is about as cosy as it gets. No, I'm holding onto this job with a vicelike grip, thank you.)
I suppose I need a driving purpose in life. Suggestions welcomed.
Update: The remote X login issue is actually the fault of international head office, so will never be fixed. Ticket closed! *ka-ching*
