But first, the news.

Finally got my Commercialmas shopping out the way in Camden yesterday for the household. (Since three of the four read this, I will tell you later what I bought. I was particularly pleased with one find, and am just waiting for the recipient to open it so I can tell you all.) A few refreshing ales in t' Dev after with [livejournal.com profile] cyberpunkgrrl, Fallen, [livejournal.com profile] alixandrea and [livejournal.com profile] darkgoblin.

I was "working" today and am "working" tomorrow and Friday. Wednesday is a dinner at home, and Thursday is a two-party kind of day (health allowing), with myself and Liz attending upon [livejournal.com profile] marnameow and [livejournal.com profile] sbp and then [livejournal.com profile] naughtypixie and [livejournal.com profile] juliann.

I am seriously contemplating the Jenoptik JD2100f - I was reluctant to get it as it wouldn't arrive before Liz returned to Australia, but I find myself liking the idea of it more and more. And it talks to Linux, so FreeBSD should be at least feasible. Experiences, anyone?

I expect I should go and do some work now ... ahh, why spoil it.

By the way, i was truly impressed with the viral power of the internet today. That spam carol (which you linked, and which actually was my inbox... ish) has since left livejournal and been sent back to me in email as a "really cool xmas carol by someone" from a technophobe relative who I know doesn't have a Livejournal or the internet at home and generally has luddite friends.

Of course, trying to say "I wrote that" means your automatically branded a liar as no one writes anything you read on the internet.

I am also "working" tomorrow morning and all day Friday. Expect many stupid comments to everyone's LJ posts.

Any camera with removable media wil become $nix-patable with a pluggie-innie-thingumie that reads the card. You just mount it like a new drive.

In other news, the Purds has the XBox mod chip. Adam!

It's cheap hardware, though, and has many uses.

I think Adam is the right name for the XBox. I've been thinking it over a little too much, and Snider is more suited to a sacrificial Windoze box.

This does rather beg the question. What is everything else called? And why aren't you calling the gaming box Xander?

The PS2 is called Xander. It's a sad Buffy-geek network. Erm, my kickass machine is called Buffy, Sean's is Spike, the solaris box is Dawn, my laptop's Tara, Sean's is Willow, Sean's baby-poots is Faith, when the Psion had Linux on it was called Gachnar (tiny demon), the mp3 dump is Giles.

Scarier again is that we *think* about this, and there are reasons behind the names.

Now you'll have us pegged as the worst Buffy/pooter geek crossovers and run screaming from me.

Hee!

Ooh - moloch, who is the hosted box, is called moloch because he's on the internet. It made more sense pre-dsl I think.
