2002 had a rocky start. I was in Melbourne, preparing to move to the UK, going through a long-distance relationship disintegration and getting over a work-induced nervous breakdown. Was still recovering when I got to London. Those of you in the UK who thought I was on crack when you met me ... that's because I was, pretty much.

The middle bit was tedious, dispiriting and poor. (Whitby April was good, but. And Slimelight. And meeting lots of wonderful people, even if about half of them are also on crack. London goths, they're almost as pretty as Melbourne goths!) I owe a huge karmic debt to Ingvar and to [livejournal.com profile] marnameow and [livejournal.com profile] sbp for their BOFHly hospitality. (BOFHen are good to couch-surf off because they have money for toys and they appreciate the company. I may have been unemployed and homeless, but my cardboard box was always DSL-equipped.) I also acquired a healthy pathological hatred of Romford. [livejournal.com profile] arkady got me to drink the Kool-Aid.

I am now happily employed and housed. [livejournal.com profile] ladylilith came over in late October to see how this relationship thing would continue after trying to sustain it long distance for eight months, and it's worked out rather well. 2003 is looking good.

Went to [livejournal.com profile] marnameow and [livejournal.com profile] sbp's last night, accompanied by [livejournal.com profile] ladylilith and [livejournal.com profile] ali_anarres. [livejournal.com profile] blankinfinity and [livejournal.com profile] erzibet arrived later. No Buffy, but we did scream in horror at the Jubilee concert and the Jools Holland NYE special. Then we went up and down the cable channel selection looking for music (a Punk Rock Channel has just started - they played Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros) and drinking gallons of beer. (Budvar, Asahi and Becks. If you've ever tasted 'Merkin beer-water and spat it out going, "What the imperial fuck does that piss think it's pretending to be?", the answer is 'Budvar'. It's the particular one the 'Merkins got wrong.) I helped [livejournal.com profile] erzibet give up smoking by bumming cigs off her. Must stick to cloves from now on - that breathing thing, you know.

By the way, this LiveJournal monthly view thing is exceedingly 'l33t. August, September, October, November, December.

I did not know this? All us Aquarians are quite a lot more sensitive to such things than the world gives us credit for.

And what the hell does BOFH stand for? Acronyms have never been my strongest talent.

Be nice to your sysadmin; single-malt whisky and dark chocolate are canonical bribes.

All good in theory, but my sysadmin is a good "root" ; )
No need to say any more.

Becks, not Grolsch. Grolsch was in the case of beer I've mislaid. Becks and Ashai were the local offie's cheap-beers-of-the-week. £5 = 8 beers - with prices like that I can be drunk all the time!

I suspect that we were all (maybe with the exception of Sean) rather tipsy by that point. And the bottles are both green ;)

Asahi is much nicer if you can get the japanese version. It comes from some places in Chinatown and the Japanese supermarket near you. Possibly also from Japan.

Tis elite indeed. And I just put my own name in place of yours and it still works even if you're not a paying member. What I want to know though, is there a facility similar that shows all your replies to posts?
